Paolo, I moved a few months ago and some of the boxes have yet to be unpacked. My copy of '202' is well-hidden at the moment. Would you mind looking at yours and tell me the original copyright date?
I'm trying to figure out which came first...Annemann's chicken or Curry's egg? If my credits are wrong in my manuscripts, I want folks to at least know it wasn't for lack of trying. Best, Mick

April 12, 1932 was the letter that introduces the book, 1933 is the copy write (Max Holden). But the item may have been in 101, which was CR 1931. Annemann does not claim originality, but says the book is a compliation of existing methods, some which he may have added his touches on, but it is difficult to tell as they had been around and he had been exposed to them. So the force (on page 28) may be older than the 1932 original draft of 202. If so, the originator may be lost to time. At the very most, this would put Curry at about 15 years old at the publication of 202. Tony |

Thank you P & T, you are both keeping me on the straight and narrow.
I'll make the proper changes in Hoodwinkings. Best, Mick

Crediting changes have been made, fellows. Thanks again.
Sorry about the confusion, Paolo...the P & T reference was directed at the classier pair. Best, Mick

I've taken way too long to review PredictAbilities. Insert your favorite series of excuses here. While you're doing that, I'll tell you my thoughts about Mick's manuscript.
Mick Ayers says that PredictAbilities is "Book Two in what friends are calling the Act-series." I don't know what friends he's talking about. I call it Book Two in the Mick-series. Because with this, his second booklet, Mick solidly establishes himself as a creator/writer to watch, and to watch for every release. Audience-tested and timed acts and routines are his trademark, and PredictAbilities doesn't disappoint. His act begins with "Location, Location, Location" -- a variation on the wonderful "Free Will" routine which does require some acting ability. Don't let this frighten you. Acting is an acquired skill, which comes from study and practice. (Just like reading. Put down your DVDs while I'm talking to you.) Your prediction is turned over, turned around, in an envelope -- it's THERE but no one can read it just yet. Spectators take several items. Hey, your prediction predicts just who took what -- right down to indicating whether a gentleman or a lady took a specific item. Oh, have I mentioned Mick's patented Transition Scripts? He doesn't just throw a bunch of tricks your way. I've told you before how he leads you (practically by the nose, so pay attention!) into proper performance, timing, and audience handling (which includes a healthy dose of teaching you to respect and love your audience as individual members). Well, he also has these Transition Scripts to lead you from one effect to the other. Why, they blend right into one whole round -- what you'd call a routined and honed act. Mick also has a knack for finding discarded work and making it fresh. I'm going to skip to the effect he calls "Rescue 2000." He calls it that, because it rescues an old Paul Curry effect which is wonderful, marvelous, magical, and utterly baffling -- it's definitely true mentalism. But it was no good once the last year of the 20th century came upon us. Presto! Mick refines it, rehones it, reformats it, and basic'ly recreates it -- and drags it kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Your volunteer is liable to be screaming too. You have anticipated her Lucky Number. Shucks, I'll skip on ahead to "Hummingbird," where your volunteer takes half the deck. He or she merely thinks of a number, and counts down to that number. And then everything is all mixed up, stacked into different piles -- that card is LOST. Reading your friend's unconsciousness, or even a deliberate "STOP" command in their brain, they lead you directly to their card. (Why do I suggest their unconsciousness? Because I had someone tell me that they were THINKING of a different card. And I told them that they may have, with their mind, TRIED to lie to me, but that their unconscious was an open book. Made them mighty uncomfortable.) Just for fun, try "Reality Phone Experience" over the phone. It works, but it also works in this act. After the guest shuffles the deck, you NEVER TOUCH THE DECK. This one, I'll be doing on the radio. So please ignore it, and let me be the only one to use it. Mick, this means you cannot use it any more either. Mine! MINE, I tell you!! Mick likes to bring us back to the beginning, making a full circle with his act. This time, he does it by bringing up the same five people who started the act with him. But I'm not going to describe the effect he does with 'em. Nope, I've already described enough to make this manuscript worth $50 easily. The fact that there's a lot more to it, quite a few more effects, quite a lot of counsel and advice -- well, that's just the proverbial icing on the cake. You're just lucky he's not charging as much as that. *jeep! --Granpa Chet (Who is trying to get caught up!)

Mr. Ayres has done it again, now I owe him (he knows what I mean) but this is again, a wonderful routine. You can do it all together, you can choose some of the material and combine it with yours or with Hoodwinkings, you can adapt it to close up, even to table hopping and the improvement to the Phone trick just blew me off.
Mick, I admire you a lot Best, Pablo

Chet, I can't thank you enough for the unexpected surprise of your review. I've said it before, but I'm just content that performers like yourself and Pablo are finding this approach valuable to their shows.
