For those of you using dollar size coins ,can you do most routines with this size i.e Roths winged silver etc or do you think they are to large for these type of routines.
Just curious that's all to see how many of you that use dollars can work real close to the specs or do you find that it is harder to conceal them at a very close up situation. I have never had any problems with real close up routines as I use halfs ,i know dollars are good for 3flys but so are halfs if you are close up say arms length.Would like to hear some comments on this especially doin Roths routines. |

I use halves most of the time, mainly because they are lighter to carry, and they are a little more comfortable in my hands, but I sometimes use Morgan Dollars for "Coins Thru the Table" or "Kangaroo Coins" and also for "Crowded Coins"
If I really want visibility I have some Silver Eagles with a [, I do coins across with these, basically the Roth routine modified a bit as well as "Coins thru the Table" or "Kangaroo Coins" I also sometimes use the bigger coins for a brief flurry or one coin routine.

About 90% of my coin work is done with Morgan or Peace Silver Dollars. They are bigger and heavier and make a stronger impression on the spectator.

I prefer dollars, but I have more gaffs for my half dollar size coins. I don't use a lot of gaffs but sometimes I have to use halves because I need a gaff that I don't have in the dollar size.........yet.

Yeah thanks guys I was just wondering how the big coins worked for you guys in close up situations, and wondered about the limitations if there were any! I suppose it is like anything else ,practice and practice again that's what you have to do I guess.

Shaun,
I use half dollar coins for 95% of the routines that I do including winged silver by Roth. The only time I really use Silver Dollars is for 3Fly. I am most comfortable with the half's and have the most gimicks in half dollar versions. Just my personal preference. John |

Depends on the routine and crowd. I use from USA ..dime to Morgan..
After seeing the Boston Massacre, I got out my new box (half dollar size) as well as my dollar sized box.... Thanks to Larry B for the dollar sized Chinese Coins. They will go well into a triple spell bound routine. Some day I may get some dollar sized related C/S... An interesting note, after working with dollar sized coins, going back to half or smaller is smoooooooooooooooooth sailing.... Harris

Karl Hein uses a Dollar size C/S/B in his lecture, for his "International Frequent Flyer" and the big coins REALLY look good.

Geoff Latta has a wonderful coins across in the spectators hands he does with dollars. Slydini did coins thru the table with dollars close up. I have adapted some of Roths material to dollars, just watch the angles on the edgy stuff.
I think you can do plenty of great stuff close up with dollars (it could be a long list)if you want to. |
