Which would be better for a beginner? Mastering the Art, or Encyclopedia?
Thanks, Zach |

There is a wealth of knowledge about “pickpocket magic” available. To answer your question, “Mastering the Art of Pickpocketing” teaches a trendier street style and gives the basics so performers can have a few cool choices to play with when doing street magic.
"The Encyclopedia of Pickpocketing” is for everyone who wants to do pickpocket magic more in-depth. The 4-volume set goes more into theory and why one should do certain movements on stage, walk around, street and restaurants. Please don’t forget there are other valuable instructional materials available such as, Chappy Brazil’s “Watch Steal” video/DVD, James Freedman “Stealing the Show” DVD, and various printed material like "Theatrical Pickpocketing" and "Picking Pockets’ for fun and profit". All these materials take different approaches to pickpocket magic and should provide you with an avenue you feel comfortable with and suits your style. Good luck and enjoy, James Coats |

I would agree. The sources that James Coates listed above are great. I personally have all the instructional pickpocket magic DVDs with James and Nicholas and they do teach many forms and styles on the ency. of pickpocketing. Overall I think you should get both if you really want to have an idea about how their type of magic works.
Stealing the Show DVD is good and fun to watch but limited to certain areas and steals. Marsh |
