When I was a kid, I had to spend many hours in the church library, an odious task indeed, until I found the anomaly--a large hardback volume called something like "The Great Book of Magic." (I could, of course, have that quite wrong-- we're talking 30 years or so ago.) The difficulty I face is that, like many a magic book, it had descriptions and instructions for everything from small to grand. It was distinguished in my mind, though, by its detailed line drawings of everything, including grand illusions, and its plenty-of-white-space easy layout. I'm after it for its sentimental value, because it's the reason I got sucked into learning more about magic. I know there are books by this title, but without one in hand or some advice, I don't know which one to spring for! Anyone know of this book?
thank you-- Seamus

I don't recognize the title, but it sounds like a number of books I remember from my own childhood. Do you remember the author's name by any chance? Joseph Leeming? Walter Gibson?
Woke up.

I wish I did, but I can't come up with it. One glance at a page from it, and I'm sure I'd know. I guess I may have to just hope to come across a copy somewhere to check out. I did find this image that could possibly be it (mighty hard to remember after 30 years!), but I can't make out the authors, since the image is so small.

If you just liked the variety of what it offered you may want to try Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic.
Any particular reason you want THAT book? Special memories? Just looked good? I'm curious. |

I'm guessing he wants it for sentimental value.
Seamus, You may want to go to different websites (starting with Amazon) and search books that contain "magic" in the title or subject. Also check auction sites (eBay for starters) and different market places. You're bound to stumble upon it sooner or later. |

Hi,
Would this be it the DeLaMano's Great Magic Book. Right now someone is selling it on ebay. I tried to summit a pic of it but it was too big. Hope this helps Gardini |

I'm pretty sure the image above is it, but I can't make out the author(s). I live in Western Massachusetts, where there are approximately 2 used bookstores for every 3 people, so I'll eventually get it. Just hoping maybe someone would recognize that image. Thanks, Seamus

This is the only thing I found by the title of "The Great Book of Magic." Doesn't look like the image you posted yesterday, though.

Conjuror-- Thank you very much for going to the trouble of looking for it. THat's most kind of you. I think it may be the Rydell/Gilbert book, just with a different cover. This attached image is the cover, if I remember correctly, however, I can't quite make out the author on this very tiny image:
