I have searched and searched and there is a lot of info on canes (appearing and vanishing, plastic and metal) I have not been able to find this particular question posed. The problem I am having is that I can extend the cane to full length, but I cannot get the cap to stay put. The cap fits on but when I release tension the top starts collapsing because the cap does not keep enough tension on the end of the cane. Usually by the time it stops it is half the size and looks more like a vanishing wand. Any help would be appreciated.

Off the bat, I'd say you are winding it too tight.

The cane shouldn't be all the way extended like a candle. The cap is made big enough for the proper cane size.

Thanks Father (photius) - that was it. So obvious I couldn't see it! I was focusing on extending it to the fullest length possible that it was too skinny at the top for the cap. I have a show coming up April 26th and I want to use this as the opening effect where it changes to a 36" Jesus silk.
Thanks for the help.

You can still extend it to its fullest length but when you place the cap on, hold the cap and the cane together with your hand, then with your right hand adjust the cane by turning it anti-clockwise slightly and you will see that the cane size will now conform to the size of the cap.
It is rather difficult to extend a perfectly sized cane to place the cap on it all the time. But it is more easier to over extend it, then re-adjust the size. Hope this helps. |

I recently purchased a used Fantasio cane which came without the instructions. I already knew the basic workings, so I figured that would be no problem. Well, I was wrong. I'm having the opposite problem from the original post. I can't get the cap on the thing. The end of the cane is too big and I can't figure any way to make it any smaller in order to make the cap fit on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I discovered a way to handle the extension of those canes. Start off with the end, then pull the end until it is extended by 6 inches, and then 6 inches again, until the whole cane is extended. The idea is to extend the cane a bit at a time. The most important thing is the first 6 inches - if you do that well the rest of the cane will be good. The length of the cane would be long and the end is smaller than the diameter of the cap. From there place the cap, hold it and turn the cane anti-clockwise to get the diameter to fit the cap comfortably without coming out. Hope this help.

I agree with james the first 6 inches of the cane are very important.
you must make sure the coil is tight. It takes some practice. |
