To answer your question about the deck switch, I have been doing it for 15 - 20 years with the tossed out deck (in fact, I am performing it this week in my show in Atlantic City).
I will be publishing my version on DVD this year which allows you to make your own deck with whatever cards you choose (even promotional decks!) In my version the deck is first fanned out for a spectator who verifies that they are different cards. The deck is then shuffled (with the faces towards the audience so they can see different cards as they are mixed). Bands are put around one end of the deck, and the cards are lifted in different sections in front of a spectator who calls out the cards he sees (so the audience knows they are different and random cards). The deck is then handed to three people in the audience who select cards form the deck. The deck is retrieved and placed back in the box and remains in full view as I name the three selected cards. At the conclusion, the deck is tossed out to a member of the audience as a souvenier (no stooges and the deck switch is simple and indetectable).

Just a note, this thread is 2 years old - started April 5th 2007; the original poster is probably not even on Magic Café anymore. |

Before I ever hear of the Tossed Out deck, I came up with a similar routine. But I used long and short cards, that way the deck can be shown as the repetition of cards is more spaced out and no deck switch is needed. May be I came up with something original after all.

I like the effect TOD but the fact that a gimmicked deck is completely out of my hands scares me. I was wondering how you guys justify them peeking at just one card? My other issue/fear is that when they break open the deck to peek at a card that they lose their grip and then have to reopen the deck possibly discovering the secret. How do you guys like to give instructions on how to peek at the card without sounding like you are micro managing and have something to hide? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I have only studied and used one version of the TOD - Max Maven's. And I love it.
Has anyone here had experience with Maven's routine and Anderson's? Would like to hear your thoughts and take on which would be better? |

That's a great idea, I like the thought of a switch.
