Here is my review of Ladybug...ENJOY!
The package arrived yesterday. I opened the LADYBUG packaging to find one of the most well-made, amazing effects I have ever come across... Ladybug: BY Paul Harris, Paul Vigil, Roy Kueppers, Joe Russell, Alexander Semmer, and Doug McKenzie. Effect: You bring the crowd in close as you remove a small knife from your pocket. You then puncture the tip of your finger, and pull away the knife to show a wound. You squeeze out a drop of blood from the cut. You then tell the crowd to watch closely as the blood is openly transformed into a REAL LADYBUG! Absolute brilliance. This effect is best when you are simply not getting reactions. 9.5/10 Method: Unbelievable. Specs will not detect a thing, especially since they don't know what is coming. NO LADYBUGS are harmed. Paul Harris and crew did an excellent job on the handling. 9/10 DVD: Quite helpful. It is FULL of detail, including where to get LADYBUGS and how to handle everything. The DVD was great. 8/10 DVD QUALITY: A few sound/picture issues. I had a tough time watching some parts because I had to adjust the picture and fix the volume. 7/10 Teaching: Wow. Alexander Semmer was EXCELLENT. He covered everything and answered ALL of my questions. He went into full detail on how to handle the gimmicks and how to prepare. 9/10 Gimmicks: What more can you expect from something made by ROY KUEPPERS? Everything is TOP QUALITY. I thought the effect was overpriced until I examined the quality of everything. It comes with extras of everything you need, as well as a nice leather pouch to carry your gimmicks in. These gimmicks are TOP-NOTCH. 10/10 Price: Worth it? ABSOLUTELY. This effect, with proper presentation, is a reputation maker. You create life from BLOOD squeezed from your own finger! You might think it is a bit pricey at $87.00, but trust me when I say that if you like to do STREET performances, you NEED this. 8.5/10 Overall: 9.5/10. Look at the names who helped bring this effect alive! that is an ALL-STAR CAST with names like Kueppers and Harris. Trust me, you WILL be happy when you recieve LADYBUG! I hope you enjoyed my review. Any questions, PM me. Thanks, Ben |

I really, really, REALLY want to get this trick.
But the wife has all but put the brakes on that. First of all...the price doesn't make her happy. If I spend more then $50 on any one trick that isn't stage-sized, I pretty much have to run it by her first. She doesn't see the value in the cost of this trick. Secondly, she has worked in horticulture for the last 15 years. She has informed me that the lady bugs must be refrigerated, (I knew that), and she refuses to allow me to keep them in our only refrigerator; as the lady bugs STINK. So...with no place to store the lady bugs and the hurdle of the price; I don't see that I can get this trick any time soon. I could buy a small fridge at Wal-Mart or something; but that's just more money to spend just so I can have a place to keep ladybugs stocked to perform the trick. I don't see that flying, either. Too bad. I want this trick. |

Bendy,
Don't be disappointed. Try checking out our Tricks & Effects for sale section. Keep checking there. Many members are kind enough to sell items that they know don't fit their character well. That's how I got my Ladybug (thanks Roth!), for $40, still brand new. As for the bugs, you can use the non-bug performances, by producing a jewel - easily obtained at embroidery/hobby stores. Hope this helps! Logan

Magic is at stake here. |

LOL. I'm envisioning loading a ladybug in a tiny dove-type harness.

Apologies if this has been covered in the previous eleven pages but could someone tell me . Does the blood look convincing ? It is unclear in the trailer if it looks like blood or if it goes straight to ladybird .
Thanks. Roki |

Without sugar-coating the question (ha!) - I've performed this for several diabetics (who prick their own finger with a needle every day) and none have questioned the validity of the blood.

Hi,
on my test performance with my wife (my favourite critic), she had commented on the shinny look of the blood. I have since made the blood droplets not so shiny with some nail polish. Still working on making it a tad more realistic. Also working on how I present it which I think is half the battle. I have also been experimenting with other bugs like ants, spiders, and those small shell like critters found under logs. They all have to be small and it is hit and miss. The spiders could put a whole new twist on the effect. This could be tied in with Jim Pace's The Web for Halloween??? Ohh yes no bugs were harmed in my experiments. skol, Eric |

I would like help please, with knowing where to purchase the little red gems to use in place of the Lady bugs. OR is there another alternative? I really can not bring myself to storing these pretty little things in the refrigerator.

I actually love this effect. A lot of fun to perform and so cool when the blood turns into the ladybug which then begins it's new journey!

This really is one of those ‘out there’ routines.
Fun fact: did you know that ladybugs/ladybirds use their own blood to defend themselves? That foul-smelling yellowy-brown fluid they release when threatened is their blood. They pierce their own abdomens to let it out. Foul taste and smell is a big turn-off to predators. Nature truly is incredible. So….using a drop of your ‘blood’ to manifest an insect that manifests its blood to make its escape. Nice parallel. Look after those special creatures, all you ladybug wranglers... |
