I just bought a couple of decks. These are the cheap kind made in China. I managed to split them quite easilly, but it seems they consist of two layers not three. Is that the case? I tried to split them into three, but I just pulled off the laminate, leaving the paper in the middle, also I didn't get a clean split this way. It looks like it's two layers, where the back is microscopically thicker than the face card. Can anyone confirm this?
I'm making DF and DB cards. I was thinking of sanding down the extra thickness of some of the backs, and join the thinner backs with the thicker ones to make DB, but what could I do to make up for the thickness on the DF cards? Also, I was thinking of making some custom face gaffs aswell, anyone who have any tips on how I can get that thin laminate finish on the face? To make it look somewhat original? Doesn't have to be perfect, just passable. The reasons I'm using these cheapo cards are: A) They are cheap! $1.6 a pop, while a pack of Bikes costs $4 (I live in Norway) B) They are among the most common cards used in my country Doc-Z |

Another alternative is to have someone here in the states buy you Bikes in bulk at SAM's or Costco (where they're 14.82 +tax for 13 decks, red and blue) and ship them to you flat rate.
Just a thought. That's all I can add, because I have no helpful experience in splitting cards... though I've tried. Best of luck, and hope this helps a little! |

Thanks! How much will shipping be for a dusin or two? I imagine it will be quite expensive?

I think I owned this deck - The 3rd layer gives stiffness - it is useless spliting the cards
I used them for mock-ups (gluing indexes onto Bike cards after spliting those) the stock was thinner than Bike and made it perferable

It shouldn't be all that bad, I don't think.
I've ordered stuff from Australia before (which is almost the furthest you can order anything from my location) and it was only like $3 shipping... then again, cards are pretty heavy. I think at the very most it would near $15... I'll try to find out for sure. |

Shipping overseas is 80c an ounce - with is about 15 cards - not counting the envelope
when I was giving out Crazy Kinga - it was $1.60 to overseas people - that was 9 cards in a protective envelope

It is a flat-rate that you pay $9.50 for and you can stuff as many decks into an 8.5"x11" envelope as you can. I can fit 14 decks in the envelope if I don't include bubble wrap or I can get 8 decks if I include the bubble wrap. I just added everything up and using the $14.82 for 13 from Costco and $9.50 postage to you it would cost about $1.90 per deck. |

now see, that's not such a bad price! It beats that $4 price tag, eh, Doc-Z? |

I live in Macau (south coast of China) and have the same experience. The cards from China only have two layers and split perfectly down the middle. If these are the cards that are common in your country it helps make the cards more "normal" looking and people won't suspect whereas bikes if they are uncommon may seem gimmicked. That was my main reason for splitting the cards - so they look like the ones that everyone uses. So far this seems to have worked as no one asks me to see the cards. (They did when I used bikes!)

Great to see a guy with experience with these type of cards. Yes the most common cards in my country are real cheap cards from china. It seems that they are only two layers, however, when splitting, the face section is slightly thinner than the back section, it seems the adhesive is sticking more to the back than the face. I've made some pretty good DB, a couple nice Hoffzinser cards (spelling??), but DF I'm stumped, they are a bit thin. Any tip on how to get a nice split evenly down the middle? Or how I might thicken up the face?
To you other guys! Thank you for your help, that price sure beats the going rate in my country, I'll be travelling to the US for a wedding in the late summer, so I think I'll pick up a couple dusin boxes then. But I'm still intrested in info regarding splitting these european / asian cards. Doc-Z |

Are you handing them out? I can't see why you would hand out a df. but if you did I think they will guess it's a trick card buy the fact that it is a df long before they notice it is a bit thin. or are they that thin that you can't use them?
I'm new to card splitting and was wondering.

No.. I'm not handing them out! Unless I was doing a sort of fusion trick... but what I mean is that they are a bit too thin to use. At least in a deck, they may work in a packet trick, but not a deck. It's almost like they are missing half a layer.

The cards I'm using look like Bee cards on the back. One says "LX" 2005 Club Special and another brand is Cicada. I've tested a few others such as Tiger (come in a yellow box) and they all spit the same - right down the middle. I just glue them and press them and they look and feel fine. When I split mine, I back a non-index corner on the table to create the split. In the middle there is a kind of cheap cardboard finish. Just want to know if this is the same kind of cards you are using. Also I'm using rubber cement like the DVD "Art of Card Splitting" suggests. The cement does seem through and when wet look like a stain and can take a day to dry up. Otherwise, the cards look fine. I've done double face, double back and they all come out fine. |

I found some cards today called "BCG" "Club Special" 55 cards with a dark blue diammond pattern back. The finish is a high glossy plastic laminate or a Poly varnish, not quite sure which. They are thin, fan easilly and are quite nice to handle. It says "Made in China" is this the type of card you are refering to?
If yes, I'm going to purchase a pallett of these! Doc-Z |

Just a note. there are no good cards sold in australia - so don't even try
also its usually good quality cards that have 3 layers - these are best for splitting |
