We started our summer reading program a bit early this year. (Due to National Library Week)
The theme here in the midwest for summer 07 is Taking the Mystery... Nigel's bits include him wondering about the magic button by the library doors. He learns that they are not to be played with but are for people with special needs. The routine was written after the "handicapped doors" were broken several times at one of the schools I work at. In conversation I mentioned that sometimes I used the button when my hands were "too full". I was kindly educated by one of our wonderful teachers about the correct use for these doors. I won't share the patter I developed but thought it would be food for thought for those that do school and library programs. Speaking of food..Nigel also learned (and shares) that the big box with a slot in it is not to throw his McDonalds Trash..it is the book return drop... Though it will probably only be used in elementary classrooms, we also developed a power point on the difference between Fiction and Non Fiction sections of libraries.(now sometimes called Media Centers) Harris
