I love the sound of Alexa's castle square circle. I'm currently doing something similair and making a square circle telly.
On the other hand, I did make it by finding some junk and spray painting it...... George |

Thank you for the compliment, George. I'm a storyteller first, magician second. Nothing goes into the act unless I have the perfect routine, regardless of whether its brainlessly self working or super technical.

Just callin' it as I see it. The themed prop/show and the puppet sound creative and logical.
Funnily enough, I originally did my square circle routine with a puppet. It was a vent routine about fixing a broken telly. It had some nice bits in it. The kids liked it when Henry stuck his head in it and pretended he was on the telly ("here is the news: Magic George has smelly socks") His unhelpful advice on how to fix the thing went down well, too. However, in the long run it was to awkward to manipulate a puppet and a big prop at the same time, so I fired Henry. I'm guessing you've got around that problem by doing all the prop manipulation before you take the puppet out of the 'empty' castle. George |

Hi George,
I really like your idea as well! I'm new to puppets, I can't really do vent well at all yet. In my last show I introduced her, did the whole "shes a puppet!" took my hand out, laid her down, explained how we all know that but Princess Adorabelle doesn't know that so we can't tell her! Then I picked her up again and she didn't talk, then we went into the whole "is it okay if my lips move" bit and of course the answer was yes, they want to hear her talk! I routined it so that I could actually take my hand out and put her on a chair whenever I needed to pick up a new prop---it was like a puppet bit, mad at puppet, puppet sits down, now we start the next trick. I don't know if my explanation makes sense, but there you go! Alexa |

Music works well for all productions of this sort, especialy if you are making a prolonged production which is possible with the square circle. Someone, maybe it was Karrell Fox, had an ending where the silks had messages on them like "Enough already!" and "Boring!" and others. Wish I knew where to find them. I might consider resurrecting my Square Circle.

Well,
I used it for the first time and produced silks and streames and then 3 fish bowls with 2 gold fish in each. It killed! I love simple magic sometimes.

My whole act is done from my square circle.
I have made a large magicians hat as the cylinder and a surrounding square of stars etc. I produce all my props and tricks straight from my magic hat which was shown empty at the beginning. This has been the basis of my show for over ten years so I have several 100 gags and lines that I use depending on the audience, age and circumstances. But basically I start with a big hole in the bottom of my hat and use magic to produce silks, jug of milk, egg bags, ropes, rings, rubber chickens and finally a live rabbit. The only issue I have is it takes 15 minutes to reload so I now have two identical load tubes ready when I have back to back performances. I have also redesigned the method somewhat to ensure my rabbit has good ventilation and comfort during the show. I really enjoy watching the parents after my show inspecting the hat trying to work out how so much stuff came out of it! |
