Have always been into The Lorax myself, good stuff

Sleight of Mind by Harling & Nyrup is another good one. Kinda like a Cliffs Notes for showmanship in mentalism.

Take a look at:

Anthony Robbins' "Unlimited Power"

"Neuro-linguistic Programming for Dummies"

Additionally, do a Youtube search for NLP.

Hope this helps. - Scott

Cooler than NLP is the real kind of body reading that professionals use all the time. Check out Reading People, by the OJ jury consultant. I forgot her her name, but it should be easy to find on Amazon. Great stuff about reading people, and also about intuition. Tons of material for mentalism effects.

Are you ineterested in body language per se or in its application to magic?

If you are interested in practical applications, you may find original source materials on NLP too theoretical and business focused.

You might check out materials on cold reading, which uses body language and much, much more to read people at a glacne. Here are some recommendations:

- Full Facts Book of Cold Reading by Ian Rowlands
- Completely Cold by Kenton Knepper
- The Real Work of Cold Reading by Bob Cassidy
- Red Hot Cold Readings by Herb Dewey
- Body Language by Allan Pease

Jo-Ellan Dimitrius. I second this book (I really enjoyed it, so much so I have several copies, 1 at home and 1 at work).

Paul Ekman's works on micro-expressions have been valuable to me. NLP-based books/courses... not so much.

I've noticed he has quite a few books that, based on the titles, seem to cover similar ground. Which one(s) would you recommend (or did you do the CDs)?
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

In the books the best one is Unmasking the face The rest are repetitive
Get it, it is good
Don't know about the CD

This is acknowledged as the best intro book to NLP
You have to work at NLP but remember, it doesn't only help you to read
your clients more effectively but it helps you to phrase your patter to them more
more effectively
NLP is a tremendous tool for reading. the better you are at NLP, the better you will be at giving readings
(To NLPers: Isn't it a pity that Bandler or Dilts didn't do an NLP model of
a top reader?)

I feel Telling Lies has the best summary of the theory behind behavorial clues; if you're already an attentive and natural people-watcher, you really don't need to absorb the mind-numbing details of the CDs (which are more about observation than interpretation.) Emotions Revealed also has interesting ideas you can play with.

What I find refreshing about Ekman's work is that he never makes you forget how unreliable some of these techniques are, and that you are essentially playing the odds with educated guesses. This stands in sharp contrast to the ludicrous promises of... some other books/courses that you can study on the subject of body language.
