Cash is the most common.
There was the time I walked away with three zip-lock bags filled with roasted chicken, and ham. Scott

Uppper Back and neck work from a homeophathic therapist for promoting their work at a health fair. I was the "guinnea pig" and was actually worked on during their show right before my show started on the same stage. Very fun and helped build up for my show...and she told me she'd "pay me for my time with a little therapy on stage" for helping her....my back and neck have felt better than they have for almost 15 years since then! (I had a horrible sledding accident as a child and have suffered from back pain most of my life. No meds, though, I like to be "fully aware" for my shows. Funny how when you walk on stage the pain "dissappears")
Lots of food, including 4 large pizzas once as a tip. A rare book as a tip boxed set of Harry Potter books for my kids (reading night) A great authentic Mexican dinner (my favorite kind of food) as a tip |

I thought you were asking for strange and unusual tips (hints) for kidshow performers. Pity because I had a good one.
I've been paid with a pair of curtains and two ladies offered to pay me 'in kind' for my services. I ended up moving in with one of them! If anyone is interested, my unusual tip was always to sit down girl-style if you need to use the bathroom just before a show. It prevents embarassing damp-patches.

I had hurt my back before a show, and still managed to push through it and keep the younsters entertained. The mom was a chiropractor and was thrilled with the performance but noticed my protecting my back, and I got several free adjustments out of it.

Cash, of course, is a wonderful idea at any time.
But I couldn't get out of any show at a Filipino household without a big plate of food, usually including a ton of meat from a delicious whole roast pig - Middle Eastern and Indian families too would seem very hurt if I didn't take a little something (read a LOT of something) to eat. But my best "tip" was information - the family had passed out plastic toy pistols as "cowboy" favors, and had hunting gear in view in the garage, and a quick inquiry to the dad got me directions to the ONLY affordable firing range, something I'd been vainly looking for for a year. Made my Boy Scout marksman-trained kids very happy. |
