Hello all,
Right... I'm trying to balance out my repertoir, and I'm looking for a single source (fairly low budget) of impromptu, walkabout card magic that plays big and doesn't involve double lifts. These criterion alone would narrow down my repertoir to one trick, so any suggestions? Thanks Chris |

Theres bound to be a book like that...
"Marlo without Doubles" or something. On a serious note, look into some John Bannon stuff. Paul Harris has some nice things that could fit the bill in Art of Astonishment. Jack |

Is there any reason you are wanting to stay away from that particular move?

I was asking the same thing as Sibbie.
With a simple DL and basic techniques you can achieve miracles, if well presented. I remember a very good effect that plays big and quite simple by Harry Lorayne, its name I think it's "Unexplainable" (don't know the original name as my source is in spanish). If you want details on this, let me know and also I'm sure most of the guys and even Mr. Lorayne himself would give you a great explanation on the trick. Good luck, Antonio |

Sibbie - It's more about the routining than anything else. I am trying to create some flowing, open ended routines that can be adapted to any situation, even in mid performance. I'm just not comfortable performing three sets of DLs for the same person (outside of my ambitious routine that is, but then that took some thought on structure...).
The important word was "walkabout", though - I am looking for in the hands stuff. On a table I'm fine - OOTW, triumph(s), 21 card trick... Jack - a good suggestion with AoA. I might go trawl through it again. The one decent trick I was referring to was actually Las Vegas Leaper (although I prefer the two spectator variant). Any specific effects? |

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you'd probably be better off practicing your DL until you're totally comfortable with it. It's one of those few sleights that's simple enough to allow you to do almost anything with it. Personally, although I love learning new sleight of hand, I'd rather have a basic set of sleights that I use in my effects so that I'm always in practice for nearly any trick I want to do (as opposed to having some tricks that use sleight of hand that you never use anywhere else). Plus, if you want to do in-the-hands effects, a good DL is invaluable.
