What cards are those that Shoot and Apollo use and where can I obtain some?

I haven't seen Apollo perform, but I saw Shoot at a lecture last weekend, and the only cards he had which I hadn't seen before (Bikes & Tallys) were called "Wizard's Inn" cards. Apparently, they come from Shoot himself.
I handled a deck, and I'd have to say that I wasn't thrilled with them. They have a thick, plasticy feel to them, and they wouldn't faro -- kind of like the way Hoyle and other cheap cards don't. They were nice and springy, so they're probably great for shuffling. I guess it depends on what you want to do with them. I think his girlfriend said they sell for something like $10/deck, and that seems like too much to me. They were sold out, anyway. |

Hoyles will faro. I know, I have used these and bikes. I faro both type of decks.
The Hoyles are not any harder to faro than bikes. At least not to me.

$10 is probably very cheap in Japan. It would be fairly cheap for a deck of cards here in Norway and things cost even more in Japan than here.
I have also heard that these cards are very stiff and difficult to handle. Well, so are most non USPCCo cards if one is used to them. Mostly a matter of getting used to them I would think. I think Wizard's Inn is the name Ogawas group of magicians. So these cards would probably not be sold to the public at all, except at a convention as a service to other magicians. Would have loved to have a pack or two myself. Even at $10. They are beautiful cards.

Bike's are about 1.13 if you get a pack of 12 from Costco.

Of course, I just bought a bunch for 93 cents apiece at Target -- they had two decks and five dice on clearance for $1.88. I bought 29 packs. There's a thread about it on the Café. |

Hoyle's are very nice, even for faro.
A friend of mine used them for a long time, but card dealer stopped bringing them so he hasn't got any more in good quality. They don't feel as soft as Bicycle, but they are very good, depends on your own taste. Anyone knows where to buy Hoyle decks? Antonio |

I ordered some fairly reasonable Hoyle decks from an eBay store. But after maybe a month they haven't arrived.
I don't think it's the dealer's fault though, since he doesn't have a bad rating and things do disappear in the world of international shipping. The eBay Hoyles were the cheapest I found at the time I was checking prices. Anyway, that dealer is out of Hoyles now so a link to him is pointless. My impression from others have been that Hoyles aren't very nice at all, but I thought I'd use them for packet tricks and for tricks that has one card suddenly change back color and pattern. The shellback pattern looks nice, at least in pictures. Hope my cards arrive eventually. Tell me... do they have magic shops or other places to buy US cards in Santiago? I may be going back there in november and stay for a while and it would be useful to know of any good shops in case I need something. I have started magic after I was there before.

It depends how you do the faro. If you bend lengthwise as in Expert Card Technique, the thicker cards can be a disadvantage.
