I've been thinking of buying this Mikame effect since it was first announced. Seeing that so many of you, including Frank and Gaddy love this effect, I will go to SEO Magic and order it today.
Thank you all for helping me make the decision. Since I mostly do my Magic in a hospital, I'll see if I can use it with a stainless steel bed pan. This is going to be fun!!! :o) dsalley13 |

It should be very apparent how to fix it. use more of what's there in the first place. go buy something like it at the store.

Admittedly my response might be a bit late, but just to confirm... The Mikame gimmick fits just fine inside the Bed, Bath and Beyond bucket. I have used it this way with no difficulties.

Jeff McBride teaches some nice Miser's Dream routines on his various dvds. Miser's Dream can lend yourself to your own creative juices very easily.

BTW, I agree that this is an easy routine to use no gimmicks with. But I love my Mikame Granted. Works like a charm.

Not everybody mentioned, but Mikame´s gimmick for the Miser´s Dream has a great advantage: You can show your both hands empty, the pail stands in the normal way vertically on the table, instead the old method, where the coins risk to move out of order inside the pail, on the horizontal surface position. On the DVD, Mikami teaches the advantage and pratical convenience of placing the pail standing up on the table, instead of laying down with the coins inside on line. The package of Mr Mikami is a must for anybody interested in improve the Miser´s Dream. I suggest also the Levent´s complete DVD´s, a masterpiece covering the Miser´s Dream in all aspects .

I am confused....I just bout the Mikame version at an auction and all it came with was a pail....
There was no gimmick or coin holder.... When I got home I looked on the Internet and found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54w6CN-0W......embedded I assume that there is some sort of coin holder in the pail I am missing which allows me to show my hands empty first ? Any advise or thoughts bout what I need other than the pail ? Can I use real half dollars or silver dollars ? or Just palming coins if there is an extra gimmick ? Please advise or PM me if we don't want to publicly discuss the gimmick. Thx !

Expertmagician, I don't know whether Mikame made buckets. The Miser's Dream Granted by Mikame is a gimmick that can be used with any bucket and the gimmick comes with palming coins the size of half dollar. You can exchange the palming coins for half dollars but dollar-sized coins won't work. I know that many people perform the Miser's Dream without gimmicks. I've always loved performing the Miser's Dream but it wasn't until I got this little gimmick that I moved on from entertaining my mirror to presenting it to a real audience! John

I have been doing the 'coin pail' since 1946. I have 'worn out' a pail or two (one is in the Bob Lund Museum)
I have shared the routine only with several friends. I have decided to publish it in my upcoming book. It is ABSOLUTELY SIMPLE. It CLOSES THE SHOW, when I work for elementary age school kids. (I can't "follow" it! I KNEW AL FLOSSO, AND CHARLIE MILLER. I've met Chris Capeheart. Each of us built a routine that fits our personality, and, the situation in which we work/worked. My routine FILLS the STAGE! NO SET UP IS NEEDED, AND WHEN THE ROUTINE IS OVER, I AM 'SET' FOR THE NEXT SHOW! (I think that Chris would like it!) I think that a lot of magicians will like it!

I am so thrilled to hear that Dick Oslund is going to release his Miser's Dream routine. He has done it mostly in schools in tens of thousands of performances. I've seen him do it two or three times.
Here's a suggestion for you guys that are frustrated with gimmick buckets which take 50 cent size coins when you want to use Silver Dollars for better visibility. It may require you to change a couple of things about your presentation, but I've been doing this for years. My bucket is an Abbott's style champaign bucket. The coins in the two gimmicks are Abbott's Palming Coins. In my routine (and in most miser's dream routines) these coins are never seen. So, I use just a few Nielsen Dollar Size Palming coins. (I start with 6 in Downs Palm and produce them without using the bucket gaff.) Then, I produce one final dollar size coin which will essentially remain palmed in my right hand for the rest of the routine. As I pretent to drop that coin into the bucket, I push off one of the 50 cent sized palming coins and let it fall. There is only a very slight difference in the sound which a lay audience will never notice. At the end, I pour all of the coins out of the bucket and show them as a big handful in my hand. With a large bunch of coins all overlapping, no one has ever noticed the difference in size. I do have a couple of the Neil Foster style coin holders (not droppers) down in the bottom of the bucket with some silver dollar palming coins ready. That way I can reach in and pull a coin up into view whenever I wish. I also have one of the Foster style holders holding a jumbo coin for Neil's Finale. Dennis "Denny" Loomis

I am NOT looking for Mikame gaffs. I use a stainless steel utensil holder (for kitchen utensils on a counter top)and my two hands (one left and one right).
The pail cost me $.89 in a thrift store. I have done the MD that way for almost 70 years. I've used several different pails, including the Charlie Miller "Bell Bucket". When I kill the prop (pail) at the end of the routine, I am set to repeat it. The MD CLOSES MY SCHOOL SHOW IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, and is next to closing in high schools. I have done the MD in EVERY CONCEIVABLE SITUATION, from Carnival Side Shows, as a teenager, to large auditoriums with 2,000 high school kids. I am publishing the routine (see my pal, the late, Denny Loomis' comments above) in the book which should be out this summer.
