A review of “Brainstorm In My Pajamas”
by Ronald Dayton (KOTAH), List $39.95 From: http://www.leapinglizardsmagic.com/brainstorms.htm I’d promised to read and gather my thoughts on KOTAH’s (that’s Ron Dayton to most mortals) new book from Leaping Lizard’s Publishing, “Brainstorm In My Pajamas”. I finally found the time to properly examine the book throughout a week long gig at the Ritz Carlton in Sarasota Florida , where I had a good amount of leisure time between performances and smoke inhalation from the local fires. Usually when reading a magic “how-to” book one expects to find the how-to’s of card slights, or coin moves, or other technical skills… how refreshing to find instead the author’s how-to’s on creative imagination, peppered with techniques for reinventing one’s magic to be more valid, logical, interesting, and most of all entertaining. My favorite parts are those where KOTAH takes you by the hand, gently and expertly demonstrating how to transform well known magic effects into magically logical, original, and unique offerings. He actually, by example, is giving concrete and practical lessons on how to be more creative, imaginative, and original with your magic, by providing the nuts-and-bolts of his personal brainstorming process. Ron teaches magicians how to think out-of-the- box without ever being condescending. The book is an organized jumble of invaluable thoughts and ideas (replete with dining metaphors of appetizers, main courses, coffee and desserts). It is Ron’s most personal book to date as he shares not only his candid opinions of what magic should and should-not be, and what heights magic can aspire to, but also personal and biographical snapshots which are highly entertaining as well as valuable historic insights and lessons in magic. The complete routines and presentations presented within the 180 some pages of “Brainstorm In My Pajamas” are worth many, many times the cost of the book alone, Ron even tips all the details of his non-switch method of razor-blade swallowing… a special gift indeed. As I generally do with a majority of magic books, I wish this volume had been more carefully proofread and edited for clarity, grammar, and spelling, but that is a small thing compared to the wealth of material in this book, that would take years of searching to unearth. There are great tips and secrets for the magician who is still young to the art, and amazing insights that can be appreciated by the most experienced or jaded performer. Although some of the book dips into the well of Bizarre Magic, there is a wealth of purely theatrical close-up, parlor, and stage magic as well. Leaping Lizards Publishing has a knack for bringing to light some of the brilliant magical thinkers of our time, who by not being household words might not have been published elsewhere, and I applaud their commitment to good magic and support of their authors. Yes, I defiantly recommend buying Ron Dayton’s new book, in fact all of his books you can lay your hands on, as well as other upcoming gems found on the Leaping Lizards website. KOTAH can help you make a huge leap forward in making your magic more Magical in nature and performance! Hello! Is this book the follow on sequel to Party In my Pants? Just asking! Without the joke though it does look like a very nice book also I like how the leaping lizards have a sample to look at. I notice they cut out the details of the razor blade trick though!! You tease!!

Thanks for those lovely comments Walt!
popobawa- That's why it's called a "teaser." Seriously though, thanks for your comment about the samples- from Day-1 of Leaping Lizards I figured the BEST WAY for people to make an educated choice was to let them get a decent peek at what they would buy before they bought it. Glad you enjoy the samples! Hi Salby, This book is filled with SO MANY ideas- some a few simple hints, some routines, that I am sure Walt would take a while to really comment on them all. (But feel free of course ) the free sample at: http://www.leapinglizardsmagic.com/brainstorms.htm gives a full table of contents which will give you SOME idea, and I am sure KOTAH himself will pop in and chat too! Cheers!
Leaping Lizards!!! Who knew it was possible.
