I would argue that it IS about how you feel also - confidence for instance goes a long way in putting over an effect convincingly [learned that one the hard way ].

I agree that when learning a routine and getting started in performing that you will need to process your feelings.
But after a while you can still entertain others even while facing very bad things happening in other aspects of your life. To entertain you really do need to get over yourself and focus on the audience. How can you offer them the character of "a magician there to entertian them" if you are busy with "the guy who has to see the lawyer at 8pm and pick up the kids right after the show"? hmmm? IMHO "getting off" on the methods is very distrating from giving the audience a good show.

It is the ends that justify the means....
Strong magic, strong character, strong connection, strong emotions, strong music...... It was actually strong magic that was the last to be added to this nearly normal guys routines. Together it is magic....when the hands and the coins become one...and you can not tell where the coins end and the hand begins... Ever notice that larger coins seem small in your hands...ooooooooooooom oooooooooooooooom ooooooooooooooome on the range........... zen and the art of coins.... If someone comments to you or me..Nice Sleeving...It was not. Harris

I would agree that the overall aim would be all about the spectator, all I was saying is that I happen to enjoy a method I use.i enjoy the feeling of actually doing it.apologies to anybody who thinks that my enjoying a move will detract from the overall impact it has,but I really don't think my execution of the move suffers from the fact that I like doing it.

Chris,
It is good to hear from someone who enjoys the art of magic. Coins are a great vehicle. Sounds like you are exploring what works at the moment..Jazz and the art of coin magic. Music, rhythm are much related to magic.(IMHO) Internal and external motivation are both worthwhile components of theatre. Thanks for sharing your joy. Be safe in and out of magic. When I share my one handed coin change..(the one I adapted from Howie S.) I smile for two reason..One it looks like eye candy and 2 that it is finally working at a higher %...after many years of fun, work, practice and rehearsal... Speaking of rehearsal..Smoke on the Mountain rehearsals start tonight...Down with the coins for a moment..out with the harps..(harmonici that is) Harris Harris
