Chris,
There is nothing wrong with shoe boxes. I do recommend the Rubbermaid type you can see through and stack. Try Dollar Tree for a matched set! Enjoy! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

As always the the painful part of magic is when you have to decide between your props and your wife. I got to that point a few years ago. I really do miss her. Seriously though I use a combination of storage containers it all comes down to your individual situation. I have a storage shed and a workshop. I also have several Rubbermaid containers road cases and gig bags. Bob Sanders is the King of Rubbermaid containers He carries his entire stock in organized Rubbermaid's containers.
I am also partial to the toaters that have wheels and locking lids. I do a lot of shows that we are camping in tents for. so they are a nice waterproof way to keep props and everything else organized and most of all waterproof. |

Oh! Michael!
You said "organized". Thank you! Please tell Lucy that. She'll never believe me. There is a system there and an address label on the box telling what's in there. Things aren't packed away by accident. And they'll stack! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- Apparently the same rules don't apply to her collection of tea pots. |

I even keep them in my trailer in foot lockers but they sometimes still rust... Any suggestions? Dave |

Prototype,
Thanks for the link to casesgalore.com! That's a great site and the prices aren't bad, either. |

Besides my show cases, I store most unused props in clear plastic containers, of various sizes. Some of the larger ones are stacked on the floor and the smaller ones are on lightweight metal shelving units.

I found that the plastic storage containers work very well and as stated before to also put an index of what is in each container. If you are a collector or just have so much stuff you may want to get a program so you will know where everything is. They also have the 12 X 12 wire shelving units at Target for about $12 that work pretty well if you want to display stuff and store things. there is a free program out that may help also, I have not tried it yet myself, but you may want to check it out and see if it something that you could use. http://www.magicbase.biz

Think inside the box. . . it's less crowded.

The 99 cent store often has descent sized plastic containers for things.
I bought a whole bunch that fit perfectly and can be used as drawers in a lefler table, 3 accross. didn't even need the lids, they fit so well.

I found a 6 drawer dresser at a yard sale very cheap years ago that I keep all my magic in. Inside one drawer I have small plastic boxes that keep all of the little things organized, such as TT's, coins, etc.

Okay, it has been a while since I contributed to this post, and I have upgraded since 2007. I have basically taken over a wall of our guest bedroom. I have purchased two metal shelving units with adjustable racks. I have 10 decorative file boxes that hold most of my effects. The larger things are displayed, or are kept in their own unique box...

Each of the file boxes are organized by type of magic, or by specific shows. They have a label on the box that shows exactly what is inside. No more searching through each box to find that particular item...

Inside each box all the items are packaged in individual baggies and labeled. It's a little overkill, I know, but I thought I would share...

Wow, Tony Thomas is very well organized. Wait till you see how messy my room is with one metal shelving that I bought from Lowes. My room looks like a tornado went through it so I am not going to show you guys.

It was nice to see how Tony labels the outside of the box, I think this would work great for me.
