For the movie permere of fantastic 4, the promotion office altered usa quarters so it has silver surfer on them instead of ol' george...They are VERY rare and are illegal to spend now.

They Produced 40,000 of them. About 800 for each state. George Washington on one side, silver surfer on the back.

You'd think the Franklin Mint would know better than to create something so close to a money-coin.

I didn't realize that the Franklin Mint is "private", I thought it was a part of the U.S. Mint.....

Nope franklin mint makes coins, swords, and other metal art that's of that nature for collectors

They are real quarters with an image of the Silver Surfer printed on one side. They didin't mint money they altered existing coinage.
