A frequent listener referred me to a book
now in its third edition called "High Visibility" I read through parts of the 1st edition, but he told me the 3rd is really good. written by a some professors from Northwestern and its case studies in marketing/promotion. I probably have the authors written down somewhere.

You may want to find a book by Billboard
Music, I have a couple of Old copies, but I have always referred to them, they have a lot of good information. the same rules apply 15 years ago as they do today.

If you feel you can't invest in John's full course, consider purchasing his $20 book, "Fundraising Secrets". It was written for his customers to use in promoting his shows at their event. Lots of real life, tested examples of what works. Also, take a peek at Kyle's post on this thread: Cafe thread titled... How to produce a show I hope that this helps. - Donald P.S. You'll find John's book is not something he normally sells to other magicians, so its on another part of his website.

John-
You know, I've been at this for...ugh! I've never provided a lick of promotion for my shows. I've always depended on the client for that part of the event. The way I see it: I'm being paid to perform. If they want me to do the promotion 1) I won't. And 2) My price just quintupled! Effectively promoting a show takes a tremendous amount of time and $$$! If you are producing your own show, then go ahead a promote it to the hilt. But if someone is hiring you to do a show... leave it to the booker. |

Troy thanks for bringing that point to me. I'm at the point in my career in magic and comedy that I am booking my own shows. This is why I want to have a heck of a promotions plan which also wont put too much of a dent in my pocket.
