I just bought a dusin(dozen?!?) of these cards today! I came accross a "Dollar Store" (MAX for you norwegians if you are interested) they had a summer clearing sale, and sold these decks for 50% off! that's ca. $1.50 a double pack!! 75cents a pack! Wow talk about cheap cards! My wife thought I had gone mental when I started emptying the rack into our cart, so I had to make a compromise... well anyways 12 decks is enough to get me started on trying to create some cool gaff experiments! I can't get over how great these cards are!

Congratulations, Doc-Z, that is a good buy. That price is even cheaper than what I can get from my own country. I would encourage any one to get them - it is really really cheap.

Well, I finally went downtown to pick up some of these cards today (the ones in the attached photo) and I have to say after trying them that they are among the worst cards I have ever tried. They also seem very cheaply made and became completely bent after springing them.
None of the springiness that some of the US made cheap cards like Bicycle have. They are just dead and sloppy with no will to bounce back. With my kind of DL I need a card with some self tension so that it turns with a nice FLAFF sound. These can't take it. And off course no air cushion type surface so they fan quite badly. They also have an odd uneven corner finish. There is a divide where the side ends and the corner begins. They even sound uneven when riffling them. No... these cards are cheap here for a reason. You can still do magic with them of course and shuffle them. But try something like a Heinstein Shuffle and they will not take the pressure. Bend them and they don't straighten even a little by themselves afterwards. Another thing is that they have the actual USPCCo faces. Not similar ones but their very graphics. Which I believe is a copyrighted variation on the classic English Pattern. That and the fact that there is no manufacturer information whatsoever lead me to believe that they are simply bootleg cards and not something made by an actual professional card printing company (which I'm sure they do have in Malaysia). No... I'm afraid I don't share your enthusiasm.

There are no professional card printing company (that specialises on playing cards only) in Malaysia.
These cards are just printed by normal printers and the card stock used is very poor. That is why the price of each deck is so cheap. |

Hm.. too bad you didn't like the cards, I actually grow more and more fond of them the more I work with them. Almost all of my sleights work better with these cards, than my Bikes. But hey that's me. Maybe my hands are different and these cards suit me better. The uneven corner thing is actually real cool... I agree about fanning, they are not good for that, I've managed to do a pressure fan with them, not perfect, but decent. I've also managed to create some cool gaffs with them! The card stock used in these cards are far superior to that of the plastic laminate cards from China. It's thin, but fairly stiff, and the finish enables the card to stick together nicely when doing cutting flourishes. The prints are also a much higher quality than the Chinese cards. The colors are even, without spots, streaks or breaks. Some of my Chinese cards look like there was a printing accident when they were printed. I used them on saturday when I was doing a gig at a wedding worked like a charm!

Dollar stores are great for buying decks to use with card warp and other throw away tricks. Most of the local stores like that sell 2 decks for a dollar around here.
But I am curious to know what this 'secret' is with these particular cards? |

The "secret" is useless without the cards!

I've been aware of these cards for a few years. They've been sold at "Nille" for Nkr 10.- ($1.50 or so) That IS cheap. But these cards suck. The only thing I would contemplate using them for is "Card Warp" or "Torn & Restored Card" or ANY routine that destroys one or more cards...
Bikes can be had (in Norway)for Nkr.25.- IF you go to the right magic dealer, and NOT to a bookstore. Bjørn PS: Stanyon, I haven't handled these cards (in a meaningful way) long enough to learn the "Secret". Can I PM you?

I have used these while playing around with the 6 card repeat gaff. They do pretty well for that. I would also like to know the secret so that I might play around with more if possible.
Thanks and take care, Patrick |

BTW, I just came to a similar conclusion about these cards today: they are excellent material for practicing card folding! Have 3 decks left now and they will be dead by dawn.

Man I still love these cards! The coolest thing about them is that they resemble the cards used here regularly more than bikes do. The type of magic I do is close up, with both me and the spec handling the cards. These cards feel just like the cards most people use. Bikes don't. The linen texture of the cards isn't common here, so people, at least the people I've performed for, think they are "special magic cards". These cards are cards they've seen everywhere and they may even have them. Basically I can do most of my sleights with any deck, both bridge and poker sized, but these cards help me a bit along the way because the card stock is real stiff. They don't handle smooth like a deck of bikes, but once you get used to them, I think you will love them. At least I do

Sorry but I am tempted to think that you have to be mistaken about people thinking that these cards look less "special" than for instance Bikes. Have you discussed this with any of them? If so are you sure you didn't say "don't you think these look less suspicious than..." and that they answered "yeah... sure.. I guess"? A leading question, I mean?
If you want smooth card surfaces and stiffer card stock, there are tons of cards that are of higher quality than these. Well... imported of course, but still affordable with the record low Dollar and the record high Krone. What about Fournier 505 cards for instance? Classic European brand. Or the original Aladdin 1001 cards if you like that back design. They are even stiffer. Cards that are really disarming and safe looking have for instance Pepsi logos on the backs. Anyone will trust that those are not made for magicians.

Doc-Z, you are the first person I come across to really like these cards thatare made from Malaysia. As long as they work for you, I guess it's fine.
