Why does a head twister fool people? Also, at what speed should the inner box spin do you recommend? I just got one with no instructions, and I have never used one before. Any help and advice would be helpful to me.

Why not hook one up to a power drill. Spin it really fast.

I don't think the head twister really fools most people. I think most folks look at it as being silly and fun, but not truly amazing.

Why do any illusions fool? Have you seen Jeff McBride perform this? It looks really good. He performs it on his Abracadazzle DVD. He performs it medium speed.

I am not aware of any links, but I haven't really looked for them since I have the DVD. The DVD is available from most magic shops, or from Jeff McBride directly. It is $30 on Jeff's site. Maybe try Youtube.
Just searched YouTube under Jeff McBride found a copy of this, but only a brief one ,scroll down to the promo video. |

Because they aren't magicians and don't know what to look for. It can be over done (too long) and the audience will start to catch on, it can be done poorly, as can any illusion and the audience will start to figure it out, but as said above, it is also silly and funny and the audience is entertained by silly and funny.

I think the version that looks like a vice, where you can see the hair in the back, is very deceptive. It really looks like you can't move your head.

I think I may be one of the few people that thinks the DVD Abracadazzle wasnt that good. the only thing on it I liked was the card work an rainmaker. as for the head twister, I've always felt it wasnt very convincing, but funny to watch

I think the only time the head twister should be done is on The Twister illusion. Opening the doors to revealed a twisted body takes away any thought they may have of the actual head twisting. JMO...

The Twisting head and/or the full sized Twister are both cool illusions, however, the down side is that they both have the potential to be overdone.
The fact is that both of these tricks honestly fall into the quick, transitional type of effects. The danger for the performer is in the his desire to over play the effect. With the head twister, you really have about 30 seconds or so to present the illusion, and then you are done - or should I say that you should be done! Twist the head 3 revolutions one way, then 3 revolutions the opposite direction, and you are done. I have watched some painful full sized twister videos wherein the performer slowly twisted the head box, then paused to ask his audience if he should go one more. Then the reveal of the middle, then another slow revolution to undo the twist, with a pause thrown in because he couldn't remember how many twists he had done to begin with! Chris |

I say you start head twister, but then add in another twist by doing Andre Kole's invention where the head comes off the body. DC did this on his Illusion DVD.

Has anyone see the Head Twister (only) that is at the begining of DVD the science of magic is is a big stage illusion and it will fool you.

I have one in the works (partially built) that has been on my back burner of projects for years... Starts off like a typical head twister, with the illusion of the head spinning. Then doors on the front are closed, the top crank spun again, and when the doors are next opened, the head is twisted up, but still has a working face... eyes move, mouth speaks, etc. Not meant to be as much a fooler, as just goofy fun.

I've never been fooled and I've never known anyone who was fooled by it, but it looks super cool when it's done right.
I think that as long as it is presented well the audience wont care that they know how it's done but will just enjoy the story of it.
