Hi there,
Just found this book online and it sounds like a very good buy. I have having trouble lately coming up with a show for the real young kids and this book seems like it would have a lot of ideas. Does anybody have anything to say on it? Thanks, Adam V

Adam, I have not seen that book before but it looks like a real general party book for beginners. Personally I think you would be much better off with Ken Scott's Birthday dough video. It is about the same price range (US$29 I think) and comes with a video as well as a lecture note booklet (exclulsive offer to Magic Café members I believe). I got the video from Ken a few weeks ago and think it is excellent. The video shows Ken performing at an actual birthday party. His video is approprate for performing for all age groups although the birthday girl in the video is actually eight.
If you are looking for performance ideas for pre-school age children one of the most respected sources for that stuff is Dave Risley. Some of his stuff might be of better value for you. I have not purchased any of Dave's stuff yet, but I plan to. There is so much good stuff out there. You can't buy it all so choose carefully.

While Life on the Living Room Circuit is a good, basic book for the absolute beginner in kids' parties, anyone who has done them for a while will be familiar with most of the material.
There are some good routines in it. And it obviously works well for Tom Myers. |

Hello,
Tom's book was one of the first book's I bought, when I started getting requests to do parties. I was a balloon twister of some skill, but did not have a "act." Tom's book offer's you a full 30 minute show, and a lot of advice, good book for those starting out. The magic is not all that difficult and some of the effects are not something I would use. Having said that, the book offers you a blue print, to work from. Dump what does not work for you and add in something that does. The books vaule is the advice and the blue print. I personally LOVE GIANT TAZMANIAN MANEATING DEVIL ROUTINE (it is a balloon rountine), once you understand the concept you can make up your own (if you are a balloon twister of little skill). I like this book, it is a pack small, Plays not so big, but plays well and fits the bill for many parties. I have booked many parites from this book doing the exact same magic as listed (minus one trick and changing the balloon rountine). If you have an act and really do not need much advice and are making money, pass on the book, if you want a running balloon gag, buy it separate for 6 bones from Tom. The section on building a show and turning it into a business is worth the price of at the book. I like the book and it is a nice read. Kevin |

I liked the book and Kens Video get them both. (but buy Kens First! how about that plug Ken?)I would build your routines and show from as many resources you can by using the stuff that works for you. I really like the way Ken has the music in his show it really set it on it's own level. Do I do his show, NO nor do I do T myers but as you read, watch, talk and Share with other magi than you pick up little tid bits that help you and your show go to the next level. I have yet to find the perfect show on Video or book. (still looking....) Also I have yet to find a video or book that spells "it all out". they tend to leave stuff out. Most likely because of the amount of info it would take. So I think it takes a group of resources to pull from.
Nothing of the same will bring any change, take action today!

I thought that Ken's DVD was a better value for me.
