G'day G'day
Yes Magic Lessons are everywhere. Use a Google search and you will be surprised. Google: Magic Course and Magic Lessons I completed a lesson through Stott's Correspondence College 134 Flinders St Melbourne Victoria Australia Back in 1999 there is so much more out there now it is amazing. I recieved "Mark Wilsons Complete course in Magic" for passing. Has anyone else done any courses as such or are books, d.v.ds and videos the way to learn. Hugs N Giggles Tracy :> |

There are good courses, one of the best is Jeff McBrides Master Class and Mystery School. There are even video courses. Mark Wilson's has been a standard to teach magicians for a long time. So has the Tarbell Course in Magic, both are must have for any serious magician. The best way to learn is one on one. If you can find a magic club nearby, or magic conventions, etc. You get live instruction from much more experienced magicians. DVD, Videos are ok, but not the same as one on one instruction. You can watch Curtis Kam's coin DVD's and learn a lot about some top grade coin magic, but being able to look Curtis in the eye and ask him a couple of questions and have him show you the move one on one can't be beat. Check the various magic societies and see if they have a local club near you. If not, there is a section here called "so happy together" that often posts up comming lectures, maybe one will be in your neck of the woods.

G'day, Photius
Thank You but I don't live near anywhere that has a magic club. An easy 4 to 5 hours away would be close for me. Tarbell Course I did just see a site for that and will check it out now, Thank You. Hugs N Giggles |

Where do you live? Maybe there is someone else near you who would also like to get together and share some magic.

There is a cd version of the original tarbell correspondence course, then there are the published book versions. More material in the published versions and some updates. If you can't find magic clubs or conventions in ur area and there is no brick and mortar magic shop that offers instruction, then DVDs probably become your best source, often a DVD will be based on a book , There are two DVD sets out covering Royal Road to Card Magic, One set out based on Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. Once you find the genre of magic you want to specialize in you can generally find plenty of videos to cover that area. Kids Magic many good vids out there, I'd recommend Trevor Lewis to start, he is a magician in the UK, but I am aquainted with him through a magic organization we are both officers in, I've seen his lecture and it is great, his material is excellent too. If you read the "Little darlings" forum here, you will find plenty of good vids recommended. But don't rule out books. It isn't always the easiest to learn from books, but there are many more tricks available in books than on videos. Mark used to have a video course companion for his Course in Magic, but he no longer puts it out. I've tried to get him to re-release it in DVD, but so far Nani doesn't care to copy it over.
I'd recommend videos from folks like Michael Ammar, some of his basic videos are not only excellent teaching videos but geared to introduce beginners to various forms of magic.

If you can find a good teacher you will learn more than any DVD could ever teach you. good luck finding such a teacher, though...

I realize how lucky I am to have a profesional magic school just 40min from my home.
Each sessions of 22 classes cost about the same price as 15 DVDs but we learn so much more! And we have a final exam to do: A 3 effects routine that we learned that year. I highly wish the same experience to anyone... if there is a teacher avalaible and you are serious about your magic, invest! |
