Gary Darwin put out a booklet called Darwin's Inexpensive Illusions, which has lots of great ideas. Check out Hank Lee's for his DVD http://www.hanklee.org/xcart/product.php......0&page=1

I don't know the exact date of publication, but the title comes from a popular phrase during World War II. People would get together and plant crops to share with the families in the area. These were referred to as Victory Gardens. Because traditional building materials were tied up in the war, Grant put together the book to show how to use cardboard instead of wood and metal to build illusions. This puts the publication somewhere in the mid 1940s. My guess would be 1943 or 1944.

Thanks,
Richard

Just wanted to let you know that I tried ordering the Darwin's Inexpensive Illusions DVD from Hank Lee's and they don't have it. It is apparently our of print at this time... But when it is available again I will be looking for it too!

Victory Carton illusions is available as a download from http://www.trickshop.com for $4.95. Also, Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic has an entire chapter devoted to easily-constructed illusions - including the Victory Cartons. Another book that contains some simple but effective illusions is Magic Digest by George B. Anderson.

Hope this helps.
