Hmm.. many believe they are a legend in their own minds..... perhaps that is the problem....
When I think magic - I still think Merlin and Houdini. Houdini was one the greatest masters of building myths... and since he was before Blaine etc. the rest are just following his footsteps as opposed to doing something new. Oh yeah - Uri Gellar is up there too - he is well known as he also trail blazed. The real secret to becoming a legend is to do something or go create a phenomena that is fresh and new or a signifcant innovation to something old - then go wild. Also, the more preposterous the claims but ones you can back up - the better your chances. Also, to who you create the magic effects for and in numbers... the better. Check out for example the Invisible Men by Al Mann. OK, good luck - becuase also becoming a legend carries with it the curse... (See "A Game of Pool" in the Twilight Zone... that is my final warning)

Jimmy Grippo was a magician who worked in Las Vegas. There is a book that he authored and I believe it's called the Magic of Jimmy Grippo. It's been a long time

I have an autographed copy of the Grippo book.
I got it back in the early 80's. I heard a lot about the man, and saw an appearance on the tonight show, I think. Plus he was featured in the World's Greatest Magic" book by Hyla Clark, which was one of my favorite books as a kid. The Grippo book was written by Geno Munari and contains pretty much standard routines for the classics of magic. He didn't tip any of the routines he was known for. -Woodfield |

Kreskin is a Legend to me. I'm a little too young for Dunninger's direct influence. I'd have LOVED to see the Peddingtons. Sunday School prevented me from appreciating Geller.
