Greetings Juggling Lovers!

In theater there are plays, These plays tell a story and is based off of the premise, the what if statement…
For example;
"What if the world is secretly full of witches and wizards? "
Or
"What if our Earth is shared by two civilizations, magic and non-magic?"

Harry Potter doesn't know it yet, but in magical circles, he's the most famous boy in the world. The premise of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, is that the world is secretly full of witches and wizards. They have their own newspapers, their own currency, and their own schools; and they all go to a great deal of effort to conceal the existence of magic.
The main character usually has some kind of conflict to over come, some kind of obstacle… for Harry Potter.. The bad guy is trying to kill him...

I was just wondering if any one structured their juggling act with a premise?
And
What kind of conflict do you over come in the juggling act?

I am "everyman" a famous character in the theater, not Superman, but Jimmy Olson who is just like you and me, and has a super human task in front of him with what appears to be no super powers. This all came to me in a light bulb moment about 20 years ago when I first saw Michael Davis perform on TV. Right then I knew I wanted to be like Mike.

How to win friends and influence people!

Most juggling acts that I have seen do not have conflict.

Many juggling acts work to a premise. These premises are as varied as in any other form of variety but tend towards the simplistic because of the technical difficulty of the medium. So the performer may be a chef, waiting at a restaurant and getting bored (one of my acts), exploring one style of movement (such as much of the contact stuff), two people in competition for an audiences affection (many double acts) etc. etc.

Most acts are there to amuse and entertain. There are jugglers who are there to be artistic (explore the performances of The Gandini Juggling Project and Jay Gilligan for examples) but the market for that is small and jugglers have to earn a living first and foremost.

Why in the world would I give you the reason why I juggle a whiskey bottle, cards, and a knife in my show for you to just steal it?

From what you wrote and your attitude your liable to stal a lot of things. You have a huge ego my friend and you don't seem to deserve one!

Check out Get The Shoe from germany. They have a premise and quite literally show conflict.

I think their website is http://www.gettheshoe.com but could be wrong and a quick http://www.google.com search will solve it.

They performed at the British Juggling Convention this year and were awsome. I didn't see them there, I had to result to the BJC dvd, but I did see them live at the EJC when it was in Lille, France. Awsome routine. And their site continues the story you see on stage.

"Get The Shoe" is one of the best team acts that I have ever seen. They rocked the IJA convention. What a great act. They killed. They also received the "People's Choice" award among others. Great act. Great theme. Great juggling. See them when you can...

Don't quite understand how I'm the one with the ego here. If I'm not mistaken you're the one who asked if people have a story to their juggling. People gave their opinions on the subject and you responded in a very hostile manner.

Asking people (people who actually perfrom for real-paying people) what their acts are like and WHY they do it that way shows much stupidity from you. It looks like you're trying to steal material from people, which is kind of looked down upon.

Chuck, insulting people, Ie: Al and Mike doesn't get taken well on the magic Café or anywhere.

especially when we are all friends with them, and to be honest they are probally the most knowledgable people in this forum.

You will learn something from them if you RESPECT them.

Oh and if you didn't know sarcasm is hard to read!
