Vanishing of a statue
I am trying to find out a method to vanish a statue. The illusion is for T.V and can have the audience set up. We have controlled lighting and all that stuff. To see picks of the statue please visit: facebook.com Any help will be much appreciated. Cost: +- $2000.00 Thanks Ilan

It looks kind of like a bad location for the statue to be vanished without any big contraptions. To do it Copperfield style would be difficult being that it has a building behind it.

Two methods come to mind.
One needs a cabinet type rig and can be done live with audience management. The other I don't think has ever been done since it is only bold enough to do for the camera. This also requires stooges. |

Years ago in Magic Mag. they did an article on Steinmeyer. He showed a concept drawing regarding the vanish of the statue of Liberty. Contact Jim and see if that is still available in that method and you might be able to do it a lot easier than you think. Maybe I'm mistaken but this would be how I would do it.

I would like to see a video of the performance when it is done.
My idea is a cabinet type rig too, but it also would have to have some audience management. It would involve the secret (Or theorized secret) to DC's liberty vanish, but it would be a lot different in appearance. The whole set-up would be like shadow-box, and that way, you could make it seem as if the shadow is dissolving. |

Thanks for the help.
I am aware of DC method for the Statue of Liberty and that this will not suit my situation for the vanish due to the surroundings and backdrop. Please can you PM if you have methods you could help with. HarbinJr, do you know which issue the Steinmeyer illusion featured? Thanks Ilan

Um...if I'm not mistaken, that's a statue of Nelson Mandela in the middle of South Africa.
Isn't there a sort of two-sided view about him and his accomplishments there? I know some Africans I've talked to love him and some hate him. You might want to think of the cultural image this might be seen to represent. Copperfield and the statue of liberty might have been taken really bad by some had he not known how to present correctly as a demonstration of how we often take our freedom lightly. Just something you might want to think about.

Thanks for the comment. There are two sides but really not a problem IF DONE CORRECTLY. I have been thinking about that but should not pose as a prob.
