Thanks guys.
On a related note, why do so many people now use imbedded videos instead of allowing people to download them? |

Probably because some people are a tad worried about downloading things these days. Also, it's easier to just play an embedded vid as opposed to downloading it. Whats easier than clicking a button and watching a video? With downloading, you have to wait for it to download, then save it, then open the file, then play it.
What would you rather do? Just my thoughts... Steve |

I would advise anyone that wants a top notch promo video to purchase Adam Christing's "Creating a Killer Demo Tape". It's pricey at $600, but well worth it. For those of you that don't know, Adam is the owner of Clean Comedians, a very succesfful talent agency in Southern California. He has seen 1,000's of tapes and can tell you what works, and what mistakes to avoid. I used his system on my latest video, and it has generated a tremendous amount of shows. BTW, I don't know Adam and recieve nothing from this endorsement. In addition, don't bother watching the video on my website, because that isn't it. The one on my website is over 10 years old. Come to think of it, my website is over 10 years old!

Many of us that pay for a domain do so with agreemnt on a certain projected amount of bandwidth to be used on a monthly (sometimes daily!) basis. For many of us, if we were to host a very large video or series of videos, and they were downloaded (watched) by very many people, it would rapidly eat up our monthly bandwidth "allowance", and the server company would in turn charge us a higher fee for that traffic. YouTube became so explosively popular because not only would they host the video file for you, they would let you embed the video on your site, creating the illusion for many visitors that the video was actually hosted by your site. However, as time has gone on, I believe that most people are aware that the videos are not actually on your site. Still, it has become a very acceptable practice by even high end companies. I believe that a while back I saw Ford Motor manufacturer's site that was using YouTube embedded video! Chris |

Steve is correct in the speed issue of embedding video v. downloading a video. It is so much easier to hit play and start watching it right away. Most of the time it isn't actually streaming, but rather doing what is called a "Progressive Download." But that has nothing to do with anything. *grin*
Also, you can embed video from your own site, not just YouTube. I do this on my own site with several embedded videos. I do this for several reasons. Having YouTube host the file doesn't save bandwidth. The viewer still has to download it (though it seems like it is streaming). And YouTube foots the bandwidth bill, not you. The bandwidth is actually the same, whether it is an embedded video or a downloaded video. The file size is the same and still must be downloaded in some form or another to the viewer's computer. If heavy bandwidth is an issue, I'd consider a remote hosting server, such as LibSyn. LibSyn costs about $5 per month for unlimited bandwidth. I use them to host my podcasts and some videos, so I don't have to worry about bandwidth at all. The person viewing your site is never aware a third party hosting server is involved. Keep in mind, with YouTube, if they click play, you're fine. If they click on the video itself, it loads up the YouTube page, taking them AWAY from your site and giving them the chance to get distracted and watch other videos. This last reason is actually the main reason I host my own videos. It keeps them on my site and doesn't give them the chance to wander off to the interweb. *grin* Best regards, Scott P.S. Nick, I enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing it with everyone. |

In Australia our broadband lags behind the rest of the world. embedded videos and the like often stop and start as the video buffers.
