Anyone familiar with any routines suitable for restaurant/walk-around that feature a Fourth of July plot or theme? It seems like there are routines for every other holiday, but I can't think of any to celebrate our country's independence. Ideas?

I have no idea what it is called but I purchased a little self working trick a few years back that looks like an M-80 firecracker that you stick in a brass tube. Almost looks like a short bill tube. You put the lid on and shake it (very carefully!). Explain how careful you have to be with old fireworks. Just as you are about to hand it to someone you yell "BANG". Anyone watching jumps out of their shorts. Look inside the tube and it is empty. I cut the silk out of one of those little guns that when you pull the trigger a little cloth rolls out that states "Bang". I pull it out of the now empty brass tube. I play it for fun or go into a bit about firework safety. Maybe someone else will know the name of this thing.. It looks great. Not big enough for stage but fun for walk around.

Hey Derrick - thanks for the reply. I think I actually have this thing. Mine also came with a second firecraker with a pin in it so that it could re-appear on your back. (or, god-forbid, on your helper's back).
Funny, I actually did it a few weeks ago for a stand-up show but never considered it for walkaround beacuse of lighting the wick. (At least mine came with a length of cannon fuse to put in the end). Maybe I will consider adapting this somehow for closeup. I was also trying to think of some closeup magic using the flag. I have stuff for stage, but nothing that will fit in the pockets for strolling. |
