Richard,
I don't subscribe to the Magic magazine, can you give me a brief summary on what it said about Rick Thomas? Thanks. |

We are designing two interactive cd roms and one website for companies in that same nature. Using greenscreen to allow a representative to be active on the screen.
One is for a doctor, much like rick, self promotion. The other is for a roofing company. Look for this to be used a lot in the near future. Very interactive, and you constantly keep attention drawn due to the interactive spokesperson or model. |

Basically, The Orleans was owned by the same firm as the Stardust which is how Rick came to work there. The staging conditions were very, very cramped. It was a 4 walled show which means Rick takes all the risk. His lease was up and they chose not to reknew it. He is looking for another venue and he has had several offers from other locations. Rick will be doing a show again someplace.

Holy cow! So, meaning, the four walled show means that the performer is renting it on their own? Geez! Rick Thomas was the BEST illusionist I have seen in years. Honestly, he has it all. Personality! Great illusions! Good comedy! Great interaction with the audience! We saw his show like 5 times when last in Vegas. He totally blows the Las Vegas shows out of the water. Too many of the others were doing a "dealer demo" and had very flat personalities. But, Rick lights up the room and he is full of energy!!

Gee, you think management sees these letters? Perhaps letters to the corporate crimesters, no not mob, not mafia, the multinational pirates that leveraged buy outs, funneled money into large casino/ resorts, that sold the seniors there with their PR that Vegas was to be the emerging family resort location then dropped the ball leaving many a settler's stranded there unable to buy elsewhere now due to higher overall cost=property taxes. Yes, it is a city of illusion but not about boxes with tight cubbies.
Support the union anywhere and everywhere it is. Write a letter and tell the clubs you will only drop money there if they are worker friendly. Copperfield as well, gee, I wonder if he can afford union scale? Rick is a tremendous entertainer for sure and who knows, maybe the stage was difficult. Most tourists won't take the time to venture a block, not even, two, off the strip. Sorry Orleans, bad location, don't take it out on the entertainers. Dr.Solar

Yeah, I was a little surprised when the move was made to Orleans. The Tropicana was so ideal for numerous reasons. Perfect location on the strip. Awesome theater. Great environment.
And, at the time, you could get a coupon and see the Rick Thomas show for like $15. Magic geeks that we are.....We went to see it almost every day! Truly, if you line up the illusion shows side by side, and do a competitive analysis, the Rick Thomas show absolutely left the others in the dust. This was back in 2001. (Back when Melinda was still around prior to marrying into big money). I remember reading that Rick has a bunch of tigers that they take care of, like a conservation. They eat a ton of meat per week. So, can ya picture Rick's manager telling some casino, "Please, mister, Rick has 20 hungry tigers to feed every week!" No, but, seriously, what's up with these other casinos? You'd think they'd be waiting in line to get Rick's show into their hotel? He had such an awesome show, and he packed that big theater every single day! |

Afternoon shows are typically family style shows - people with kids are not gambling - gambling is all that any casino is interested in, in the 1st place. The fact that Rick was paying them for a theatre that was idle and dark at those times meant a little bit of extra revenue. Plus, I would imagine that there is no shortage of entertainers trying to hustle all of the casinos in 4 walling their ventures. Just my 2¢ Chris |

Mac King's show in the afternoon is very popular at Harrah's on the heart of the strip. So there is a market for afternoon shows. In fact there are quite a few of them around Las Vegas. True they tend to be more family oriented, but not everybody who comes to Las Vegas want to see a bunch of topless women on stage with foul mouthed performers. There are a good number of family oriented shows in the Evening all over town as well. When you go to Las Vegas you see a lot more folks in audiences with grey hair than without. They have the money and most of them aren't into raunchy entertainment. I've seen those family oriented shows packed. True Las Vegas has a sin city reputation and will always have the raunchy and au natural preformers, but that doesn't mean there isn't a demand for good decent entertainment there either.

We got to see Rick's whole show as part of WMS and it was a wonderful treat. I've met him a few times and think very highly of him. How highly? If DC is the hardest working magician in that town, I think that Rick might be a close second. A wonderful performer who is so passionate about his work. I'm sure Vegas hasn't seen the last of him.
