Apart from Photius joke and The Dnninger ploy which are very effective, here is a small modification.
While accompanying the volunteer to the stage get his pet/nick name or the name with which his friends call him(this is off the microphone). When the volunteer identifies himself.....act surprised and say.."I was getting the impression that ur name is...nick/pet name".Its not difficult to know the girlfriends name or dead grandmoms name in the same way.Launch into the usual spiel/cold reading. In a book I cant remember which,Riss(compleate mind reading) probably..there is a mention of...do you want the name on your driving licence or the one you use at motels.I have used it to avoid getting drawn into the whats my name game by just mentioning a little story.."a couple of years ago I gave out a name which was not the name on the licence but the name he used when he stayed at motels...and the poor guy got into a lot of trouble with his wife and wifes attorney...so I let everybody give out the names they want to.." |

Asking for name is so common in our world, it is practically invisible in the context. Just like pens, pencils and papers.
On the other hand, "Tell your name for every one " is a brilliant ploy Jagan |
