Just heard on the radio this morning that IHOP has purchased the Applebees restaurant chain. The report said that they where going to franchise most of them out so this may have an adverse effect on anyone working these establishments in the near future.

How do you think this affects sole proprieters? I work for an Applebee's that is one of about 5 that are owned by a sole proprieter.

Hm - this could be trouble. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

Look at the bright side. This news COULD mean that the new owners (if they franchise) might be open to bringing in a "valuable service" into their restaurant. This could give new life into approaching Applebees.

This came as a major surprise as the local IHOPs are atrocious in cleanliness, service and product. I'll eat in a Waffle House before I will an IHOP in this area. On the other hand, this might explain all the Applebee's closing down in these parts. And Applebee's were such fun places to work...pity.

I've spoken to one of the managers at one of the Applebees that I work, and his response was basically that nothing should change in terms of the general public, the workers, etc. That's his best guess at what is going on right now, and he'll keep me posted when he gets more information, and then I'll keep you guys posted to the best of my knowledge.

IHOP wants to close the corporate owned Applebee's in favor of franchising. I'm hoping that besides the closings, they leave things pretty much alone. Sure, they need some new decorating, and the new menu choices aren't big winners, but I really don't want another pancake house.
