Geoff,
I really like the hammer idea, but in the past, I had problems with the kids hitting others and getting too rowdy with the hammer. How do you prevent this? |

Geoff - I like this prop and would like to know as well how you motivate the kids to give back the hammer without him hitting the other kids.
Thanks, Mike

Hi Geoff,
When I started out I also used to do the same bit. It was a lot of fun but in the long run more hassle than it was worth. G |

Hi All,
I twist balloons a lot and if you know how and have the right balloons you can make things like giant hammers and hot dogs etc. quite easily and not have to worry about losing your prop as it's so cheap. The negative side is that it could bust in a performance, but then you can say "I borrowed this hammer from my Pop", "that was the famous exploding balloon trick - boom, boom!" or some other 'groaner' punchline like that and people will think it's part of the show. Being able to twist silly balloons hats, wands, fairy wings, etc. quickly for your volunteers is a great silly skill to have. Just make sure that you're fast... or have the sculptures in an opaque bag beside you. Oh, you can also use a ch**** b*g or g*g b*g to access the deflated balloons if you're inflating them in the show. It can be shown empty, some confetti and other ridiculous stuff put in and there are the balloons. There are also heaps of gags with Ch**** b*gs such as leaving the bottom zipper open so the stuff falls out etc. Terry Herbert uses a couple of the gags on one of his dvds. In fact it would be hard to think of a children's magician who wouldn't use one of these items from time to time. Hope this helps. Best Wishes, |

Take out a regular balloon, blow it up, deflate it, cut it up with scissors, blow it up again and it is a a geo.
DO NOT SEARCH FOR THE PHRASE "GEO BALLOON" IN GOOGLE IMAGES. DON'T DO IT. YOU WILL BE GREETED WITH IMAGES FROM THE "BALLOON GUYS" SITE. |

Hi guys,
I don't seem to have a problem with this here in sweden, as children here are extremely well behaved and do exactly what they are told to do. also, I have so much other stuff happening in the show, that they are too preoccupied with watching for my rabbit (guy in a rabbits suit) to do anything else. occasionally I have a kid come up and hit me out of the blue, but that was only when the hanmmer is with a younger child...say under 6..better to give to an 8 year old, and preferably female, as they are better behaved. regards, geoff.
Check me out on Google. Geoff Diamond Magician.

Years ago after seeing Vito Lupo do the mouth and ball routine( it is also on one of his videos...don't know if it is in DVD format)I started doing the balls from mine and my puppets mouth..It got a small write-up in the M.U.M. or was it the Linking Ring?? a "few years back".
Another great gag is to blow up a balloon in the middle and take the bubble out of the middle....No prize to first that shares the inventor of the idea. When I heard it really surprised me... Harris

Packs flat and small, plays big. As for balloons, instant crowd. Of course, there's nothing worse then going on with the magic a bit too long and hearing "when do we get the balloons..." Sort of a mini- heckler in the making. I'm surprised no one's mentioned Silly Billy's book 'Seriously Silly'. The great fart thread of 2005 (?) aside (search for it guys- it's funny now), it's a great book on what kids find funny, different age groups, and how to be silly generally. Silly Billy even demonstrates a few tricks in it - however, avoid the risque stuff when being silly. What's the saying "when in doubt, leave it out": it might be funny at the time, but it could really come back to haunt you. Best Wishes, |
