I need a new watch, so I was thinking of getting some sort of magic watch that I could use for doing a trick or two. Does anyone know of a good gimmicked watch that is also a working watch and nice enough to wear as a dress watch? I appreciate your feedback!

Hello Jkvand,
I still have my Collectors Worskshop watch called "Perfect Time" for sale. I can sell it to you for a very good price. Go to this web page for more info on this watch: click here The actual price is $395, but I also think that the watch is no longer available for the market. So this item is a collector's items at the same time and my watch is in very good condition, almost new. And of course there are some lesser quality similar watch on the market, but none is the Collector's one. Please let me know if interested. You will make a very good deal. Read you soon. Kuffs |

I have the 'Time Machine' watch. It costs $99. The Spectator selects a time while you hold the Watch band turned away from them. You turn it around and the spectator's time is on the watch hands. Requires a bit of patter to pull this one off. Not quite the method I expected from the advertising, but works well if you are good at talking!

There's also another version of the same effect which may still be available called "Blown Away". Made by a guy in Texas, I believe. It's basically a Perfect Time with different modus for operation. Heck, if Kuffs can offer his Perfect Time, I may just have to offer my original Stull Watch...unfortunately, the price would be around $1500.00.

I have Perfect Time and for the price, I think it is hard to beat. I've seen Collectors Workshop demo Perfect Time many times and it is great as well. To cover the delay aspect, Rich Bloch always used it in conjunction with Chronologue, a pocket calendar prediction effect. The routine flowed nicely and covered the time delay well. Chronologue is only like $35 and is worth it if you are going to do a watch effect like these.

Check out Banachek's Psychokinetic Time. It uses a normal analog watch, no gimmicks, and gets amazing responses. =)

David Blaine has a million of 'em. "Watch...
Watch...Watch this...Keep watching...Look...Watch..." j/k, I like Blaine.

There's a very nice effect using an ungimmicked Swatch brand watch in Richard's Almanac. Plus about 150 other tricks...

I have the "Time Machine" watch. I really enjoy it. I wear it all of the time since it is a nice looking watch. It has come in handy at those moments when someone out of the blue asks you to do a trick. I say sorry I don't have anything. But then say, well let me try something with my watch.

Regarding the link above to an effect shown on Pete Best Discount's Magic, I advise you all to review the MULTIPLE threads on this forum about Pete Best's habit of charging your credit card for stuff you never purchased it . . . there are multiple reports of this . . . beware, beware!!!!
Are "Perfect Time" and "Time Machine" identical, or very similar, in their operation? If not, what is the major difference, if that can be explained here without disclosing any secrets? I recently purchased "Perfect Time." Steve Hoffman aka Steven Stranger |

There are plenty of good gimmicked watches on the market to buy -- I just wish they didn't all look the same! (It's a personal style issue.)
If your style doesn't match the style of the current crop of gimmicked watches, you have several options. You can always buy a normal watch you like and get it gimmicked: for instance, you there's the Richardson watch described in Theater of the Mind (although you might go cross-eyed at first). Or you could have the Time Machine mechanism implanted into it by a competent watchmaker (or so the ad copy says). Or, you could learn magical things that can be performed with ungimmicked watches: for instance, anything with a day/date works for Bev Bergeron's stull-like watch handling. Banachek's PK time can by done with yours or somebody else's watch. And there's always the PK watchstopping routine (provided you have that extra little something on hand). On that note, if anybody knows some other effects using ungimmicked watches, I'd love to hear about them.

I'm a high-end watch collector (there are lots of others like me out there) and if anyone stopped my watch with that something extra I'd go berzerk and want to hurt them. That method can cause damage. The damage might not be immediately obvious to the watch owner, but that doesn't make it right. I would never do this effect. |

Hello Jjkvand,
I use the "Time Machine" whenever I feel the need to have some magic on me. It keeps excellent time and looks like a normal watch. The band can be changed to suit your style needs and the magic mechanism works smoothly. If you set up your patter properly you can hit the desired time in less than a minute. Best of all, you can find them for less than $100. |

Larry, I wasn't suggesting you try watchstopping with somebody else's watch. This post concerned what one could do with one's own watch. And what you do with your own watch, even if it involves stopping the mechanism using nothing but mindpower and an extra something, is entirely ethical (provided you're not wearing a Patek Philippe).
Incidentally, Café member Michael Sibbernsen describes a cute take on a self-contained gaff for this effect in his Enigmas notes.

Neil, my bad. We started talking about using a borrowed watch, for example in the effect "Psychokinetic Time," so I thought you were talking about stopping a borrowed watch. I agree that it's ethical to do whatever you want to your own watch, and actually, it takes a lot less than that extra something to stop a Patek Philippe (for example, just looking at it the wrong way can do it...those bad boys are about as shock resistant as balsa wood).
