Some of you may have bought the DVD "Examining the Thumb Tip"-DVD by Alexander de Cova.
There he presentes the effect "Rosediction". For those of you, who don't know it: The magician talks with a female audience member about a (fictive) date with her. He asks her when it was and how much he payed for the food and writes all down to a little notepad. Then he shows a rose, that was lying on the table all the time. It has a little price tag attached to it. He pulls it off and gives it together with the rose to the spectator. She reads the pricetag and the price matches exactly the price she told before. In my opinion there is one logical problem in this routine. Why is the price for the food or the evening on the pricetab of the rose? Does someone have an idea how I can fix this problem (perhaps just with a little different presentation). thanks Morphy |

Why not tell her you have no money and ask if she will pay until you can get to a cash machine to re emburse her. Give her the rose with a pre written price tab stating" thank you for a wonderful evening please accept this rose as a thank you and an IOU for £XXX"(which I will repay you in cash or kind....)
Just a thought... Mark

I think I will try out the following presentation:
I tell her to sit on a chair. Relax, take a deep breath and I act like I hypnotise her. She shall close her eyes and imagine a flowerstore. She comes to a table and sees a rose. (At this time I show the rose on the other side of the stage. It was covered with something.) I say it's a very expensive rose, and she imagines the pricetag and tells me how much it costs. Later, she "awakes" and I show her the rose on the table. I pull of the pricetab and the price matches the price she saw in her imagination and told me. I can tell the audience, that I influenced her in the hypnosis to see the right price. (I love fake explanations, Derren Brown Style ^^ ) What do you think about it? Morphy |

I don't know the work behind it, but I believe if you can get the correct price for the food, then you can put the name of the unknown girl over there too.
so instead having the pricetag for diner or whatever,, you might want to think to change it to a little look alike gift card with her name there.... (ofcourse you need to get the name of the girl fisrt, either openly ask her name on the stage and you predict whos the rose belongs too or you can use an off mic aproach to get her name secretly from the audience) just a tought.

Sounds like the routine's presentation and thrust makes no sense... who cares about the price... drop the entire premise and go for what the rose represents -love/passion... ask about a love in her life...have the name or passion appear attached to the rose...
Sheesh...what a horrible date where the girl finds out the price of the meal - blech... ok, call me old fashioned but if you are inviting her out, even in imagination - you should pick up the tab.

Very much agree with the ideas of mindgames and the good Doctor!
One problem with simply having a girls name on it from the audience is they may assume you simply overheard a name before the show or knew it from the contact you had. IMHO, a stronger impact would be generated by have someone think of someone they love who is not present at the show (therefore eliminating the simple methods). Cheers, Al

By throwing a paper ball or anything to choose an audience, will definetely erasing the idea of overheard the name from the audience.. however Al's idea of asking someone she loves is a great idea...
many ways to get the name thinked secretly I believe.
