Yes a lot of book stores carry the LasLine book mark. I carry two of the same color with me much of the time. That way I can show how it is used...and do an 'Impromptu' book test. I have it set up with a word from a paper back...I know straying even further…but I rather think 'One in a Million' was a great inspiration for a very effective any paperback book test.

Great idea T.C.! I've played around with the concept for years but I've never been 100% behind the gimmick. Your suggestion may send me over the top to actually performing it. Tony Brent Outta Control Magic Show Orlando |

As far as visible or invisible gimmick..... If one opts for a 'visible' gimmick...what could be more natural than a bookmark? I have performed this effect with both types of gimmicks..the Richardson gimmick and a bookmark (like is included when you buy a book from most bookstores). It is difficult to gauge if there is an appreciative difference in audience reaction. Both are fantastic.

I have used a very simple item that can be interchanged for any book. The main difference is that the opening is covered with a small piece of post-it paper so that when the spec is going to look at the words, numbers, etc. they peek under the paper. Before beginning the effect you can lift or remove the post-it paper and they can see the blank opening. You could then add the post-it paper and explain that it will prevent anyone from seeing where the marker is stopped. It is called the "magicians bookmark". Carolini,
I don't have this item but I suspect the description may be a bit misleading when it says "no force". As for the gimmick that TC recommended, I saw it at Barnes and Nobles. I'm sure it will work just as a bookmark or business card will do the trick. I do believe, however, the genius in Richardson's method is that to the audience there are no props. It is a hands off method that to the audience involves only the spectator and a phone book. Although the other methods are very strong I believe the Richardson method does add a bit to the overall mystery. Still I do Banachek's handling with a business card since the quality of phone books in my area can't be trusted. |

No force? Let's just say that the spec has a limited choice of words. Is that so different than another type of gimmick to pick a phone number or word?

If you are using the "Wordo" type gimmick, I believe you are in essence forcing a word or words. Maybe they mean no force of page but there would still be a force of word or words. Again, I do not own the gimmick so I may be wrong.

My issue with the paper clip is that it always feels odd moving the paperclip down once the spectator has been told to stop. It seems to me that everyone will notice you slide something down to where the spectators finger stops. Also, do most of you who do this make the spectator close their eyes and not open them until the paper clip is in place?
