Hello, I've been doing some matrix with closeup pads or sofas in my life but it must be brought with you where you perform. But usually, I can't perform when I don't have the pad and the table is wood. Then, I discover "Hey, I can do a matrix while sitting down." What that means? Then I used my laps as the pads. Most of the steals can be done on the lap, as it was like a closeup pad. Give it a try.
But most slide a coin undercover of a card can only be done from btm left to top left and btm right to top right. Well, practice stealings a lot more(which I'm doing), then don't need to use those slide on the surface for a steal from one leg to the other. It looks magical for the coin to pass through the air across to the other leg. The condition of the cards must be warped inward like a cup covering the coin. Just use the fingers and bend it X style, from middle put pressure go each corner. And pants, try polyester type which works good. Give the surface flat, by just pulling it. And obviously, the laps must be parallel to the ground. Gotta train that too. It's Sleight of hand meets Sleight of legs. I'd enjoyed doing Micheal Rubinstein's Ultra Reverse Matrix on my laps. It work well. Cheers, Gary. |

Check out Jason Dean's translocation effect using your own lap or even the spectator's. It's pretty cool.

Spectators lap eh? Nice. If it's a male, maybe it's abit 'too close' to the.... And if it's a female, don't think suitable and moral. Where can I find this Jason Dean's translocation on own lap?

Try having two specs put both their hands out and using them for a matrix. works great (depending on the matrix). but allows the specs to be "part" of the magic.

There is an effect in Apocalypse Vol.1-5 called In the Hands Chink-a-Chink. I don't remember who created it but basically you do a matrix in two (or four) spectators hands. Also it is pretty easy to do, it only utilizes one sleight throught the entire thing. I suggest you check it out.
