Can I see a performance of Latta's Trick with Three Coins somewhere?
Is the instruction only available on the NY Coin Magic Seminar? |

While you're at it, Kainoa has some work with a combination of Latta's A Trick With Three Coins and Troy Hoosers ExTroydinary in his new manuscript Trifecta available at ckhmagic.com or kainoaland.com

I enjoy this trick and perform it often. However, I can't say I like it any more or less than the "traditional" fingertips-to-fingertips VCAs (can we call them traditional yet?). I feel that each of the above mentioned routines has many fantastic strong points that are as diverse as their creators. Can one of these effects qualify as superior to the others? Personally, I don't think so (on a side note, there are plenty of "bad" coin effects circulating around youtube these days). When deciding which routine to perform I go through the normal checklist- what is my performing situation (angles, crowd size), what do I currently have in my pockets (coins, of course, but what size, how many, soft or not), and the ultimate deciding factor, what kind of mood am I in? After taking all of these things into account, I then check the current phase of the moon, grab some coins, and start performing. Bottom line, why not learn them all?
So, back to "A Trick With Three Coins"... what does everyone think of the ending (double faint) to vanish the last coin? I find this somewhat clunky and have some alternate methods that fit my style a bit more. Thoughts? -Trevor |

Latta's double feint is really aimed at fooling around with those who know the original Ramsay single feint, so in order to fool those who know Latta's routine, you are going to need a triple feint

I have this also on the NYC and would agree with you coppertop103 and morgandollarman regarding the ending.
There is some nice parts that look really well like the unesting bit near the ear, The couple of passes that are made and a few other things that I can't mention of the top of my head with out referring back to the dvd. I suppose you can take parts from various coins across and make your own routine which woulden't be a bad idea. I think I might dig the dvd out tomorrow and have another look.
If you put the time in....you will achieve ...

I think you might be right concerning the ending,i keep running through this but the ending just dosen't look right ,i think it works up to the point where you do the feint (or retention vanish)once, and then Geoff does it again to end up with both coins in downs, but I was thinking of just doing it to the point of the first vanish into downs at the end, then doing the first part of the routine at the beginning where you transfer the downs palmed coin into the other hand as you take the coin that's produced from the same hand which shows only one coin from both empty hands ,then I take the coin back and do a roth shuttle pass still showing only one coin , I use the old handkerchief method in the front pants pocket to keep it open ,and while focus is on the other coin I drop it from thumb palm into the pants pocket leaving me just to vanish the last coin with a spider vanish and I end up clean .
I know that I miss the last part off Geoffs version but I think doing it this way suits me better . Just need to keep the flow of the coins going with out having to try and think what comes next ,then there is the patter but that can wait. Any other suggestions I don't mind lol. shaun. p.s it's not that the moves are that hard to do but the presentation into your own style and making this enjoyable to watch which is the hardest I think. |

Jonathan you have me really thinking about this routine lol,
I keep going back over this and analyzing it just can't make my mind up now ,it's towards the end with the double feint and then stealing the last 2 coins. I have tried to change it as stated above but still not 100% with it now . I want to finish more cleaner than the way geoff does it ,i don't want to do a carbon copy of it now anyway like I was originally trying to do . I keep looking at this through a big mirror (i know before anyone says anything ,it can be bad practice ,as the mirror distracts you anyway). Wish I had a camcorder. But this is where I have to look further in depth if I want this to work for me (not the mirror I'm talking about here). You was right there Jonathan when you said - "What others react to when YOU perform will have a lot to do with you <- you <- you. And so performing experience will be different for each of us. Where Roth focussed on hanging the coins and latta on making them appear and vanish amost like silver wisps YOU will find something that works for YOU". You see I missed a valuable lesson,i focused on the slights more than the actual routine ,does not really matter how quick one can learn "sleights" even though I could do the routhine from start to finish . I needed to build up the parts that were right for me ,and looking back, especially towards the end of geoffs routine this bit does not work for me . I will keep at this and will try and find my own way to make this suit me . Thanks for the insight Jonathan. Best shaun. |

I'm somewhat with Art-Fantasy on this.. I saw the routine as a little confusing and loaded with moves. JMO
