Before I try finding work in restaurants, I was hoping you guys could answer a few questions.
1.How many hours do you usaully work in a night? 2.Is most of the work temporary(one or two days) or long term? 3.Do you sign contracts? 4.In long term work, do you get paid everyday you work? Any question you can answer will be helpful to me. Thank you. |

I agree with what synth_infusion has said. The only difference with me is that I work on average, 2-5 hours a night. I will go up to 8 though. It's been getting closer to 5 hours lately though.

1. 3 hours is a standard shift
2. Most resturant work is long term. Every friday night for example. 3. Sometimes you do sometimes its more informal. Depends on the restuarant. 4. Many franchise restaurants you are paid through corporate office. Once a week or every two weeks you will get a corporate check. This check may be mailed to your home or you may need to pick it up at work. Some places can have it deposited directly into your bank electronically. Most places will ask you to turn in an invoice at the end of your shift. Showing the date and hours you worked then this is turned into corporate office for figuring your pay. These invoices are a very basic invoice that you can pick up at office max. Make sure they have a carbon copy for your records. Sometimes they will miss an invoice and and you won't get paid so you need to show proof in order to get that check. So always keep your copies. Some places you are paid from an entertainment fund and they will simply give you cash at the end of the night. Its still wise to make out an invoice for your nights work just so you have a record. , Jonathan |

I agree with what Jonathan said about the invoice. Cash or check, always have in writing with a signature (theirs) of the hours you worked.

1. Minimum of 3 hours/Max of 10
2. Long Term (longest engagement I had was 9 years...going on about 3 1/2 now) 3. NEVER perform anywhere without a contract 4. Depends on the restaurant. Jonathan hit on every way that I've ever been paid. Currently, I'm paid in CASH once a week (which is how I prefer). I always write up an invoice so they know ho much to pay me and I always keep records so I know how much to claim at the end of the year!

* I work a 3 hour set
* It is long term, going on 6 years * No, I don't have a contract. * I'm paid every other week by check right at the restaurant. I fill out a miscellaneous vendor invoice form. They hand me the check. At the end of the year I receive a 1099 from corporate. David Paul

I think I stated my #1. wrong. Each restaurant is one night, 3-4 hours a night. I should be in bed.
