Hi gang! I picked up Dan And Dave System and tried watching it. I'm very confused about this DVD and need help. I don't know where they explain the moves. I found the area called Archives and it shows the cuts, or whatever you want to call them, being done at different speeds and angles. I also found the extras and TV spots but where do you find them explaining things? Thank you and if you want to keep it 'secret' for some reason PM me. Thank you.

Great dvd but I had the same problem as you. Glad to know I'm not the only person, I was thinking about emailing them then decided not to incase I looked stupid. There has to be an explanation section, doesn't there?

I would think so. I'm willing to take the stupid bullet if someone can tell me (then you'll see it too Diane, pretty sneaky eh?) if there is an instruction area how to access it and if not then why. Thank you!

I felt guilty making you ask the question, so I've just sent Dave and Dan an email and will let you know the response as soon as I can,

Thank you Diane. It is becoming clear that either no one here has the DVD or they all have the same question and are to full of shame to ask. I, of course, having done much stupider things than ask a question have no fear!

Um....the archives are the explanation. You watch the cuts in slow motion and learn them that way. There is no step by step teaching section.

I was afraid of that.... See Diane? We aren't the stupid ones!
Ya know, I've talked to the Bucks before, when they were kids, so I know they speak and can communicate. Maybe they need to put aside the artistic angle and try communicating a bit better. Thank you Mr. Zombie. |

Do you really want to be like them? So single minded...

Absolutely not. I didn't find anything on the DVD useful to be honest with you. I was just surprised that there was nothing that resembled instruction. It seems that watching until you figure out all the moves they are making is enough in their minds to warrant the cost. I don't.

Ha ha! I am not the only one confused. I even tried to turn my head upside down and watch...

I'm wagering a lot of people were confused...which isn't a good thing. Showing how something is done is a method of instruction but in many cases, most cases, a poor one. You can teach math by writing the question then answering it on a board and eventually people will catch on. Some quickly, some further on, some will never get it. But if you put it on the board and explain the actions you are taking the number that will learn it increases to cover everyone capable of grasping it. At minimum they should have sat down and said "use this part of the finger, if you have a problem try adjusting your wrist, then do this....". Then when they go into the show and no tell aspect they have a foundation to build on.

Please, someone reassure me that this is not the new, low-cost way that magic dvds are going? I watched the dvd once the put it on the shelf with other dvds which will probably not be watched for a while. It didn't teach me anything, I might have just watch demo videos and youtube videos in slow motion for all that I picked up.
Well magicsanta, I've had no reply from the bro's, so I guess we're stuck with the dvd without explanation, Diane |

Okay...first I hope non verbal isn't the way it goes. Sean Fields and Jay Sankey have released silent magic DVDs and they are lacking. Too bad because the Fields material is pretty good, less so Sankey.
I hacked around the Buck Bros DVD for a couple hours and it isn't real responsive but I found an area called Pasteboards Anime. In there, filmed in a less than great manner, I'm thinking for artistic purposes, are explanations for cuts and ace productions. While I admire the practice that goes into the cuts I don't see a lot of magical value in them, a little in the ace productions, but the instructions in that section of DVD will help you learn the cuts far better than just watching the archieve material. So go to Extras and look for the Pasteboard Anime. |

You're a star, Magicsanta. Now all I have to do is learn them and practise them,

Just recieved an email from the Buck brothers;
There are no "spoken" words on The System DVD. Everything is explained visually with multiple slow motion angles to allow you to see the flourish and then hopefully create your own technique & style for executing the flourish. cheers, dan |

Then how do they explain the spoken word instructions in pastboard anime? It is there, perhaps not for every cut, but for a number of them. Carry on.

That was one of their earlier productions; their first video.

I think this question about the bucks brothers should be posted in some other section .
This section is for stage manipulation and etc , unless you want to flourish on the stage . Lol .. Regards |
