Obviously Criss Angel (please don't turn this into a discussion of Criss Angel) and others like Derren Brown, Peter Powers have taken the concept of hypnosis (and lets not turn this into a they are not really hypnotists thread) to the streets. This has created a popularity or at least awareness of hypnosis to a new level. Younger people I talk to no longer have an autiomatic association of hypnosis with a stage at a state fair, but when I say hypnosis the FIRST thing they say is "Criss Angel!"....
This appears to be a changing dynamic, with forms of "street hypnosis" becoming popular. Walkabout trance by Brian David Phillips has been a hot youtube video. So the question is where else are alternative forms of hypnosis (or what is being called hypnosis) being popularized, and do you see it as an emerging market? Of course the big bucks form this are from TV, but other forms of "street hypnosis" could really change the playing field. Richard

Kreskin did some street hypnosis a few years back on New Years Eve in Times Square and it was nationally televised.
The man is a promotional machine. That being said I did not care for the routines that he had them do, as they were all displays on uncomfortable body phenominum which would hardly make me want to volunteer at the next hypnosis show, along with the fact that he had them laying on the street in Times Square. But in the end, it was street hypnosis that got a lot of hype & exposure. Black

I remember seeing a television special in which the hypnotist was going into bars, restaurants and grocery stores and hypnotizing people. It was this program that rekindled my interest in this field.
The effect I most remember was him having a store clerk ringing up the same items over and over again because the sound would "turn her on". After ringing up one customer for over $150 on a few items that shoulc have cost only $20, he had to modify the suggestion so that she only rung up the items one time. It was absolutely hilarious and her reaction to seeing herself behave like that was absolutely priceless.

Richard you are my hero here. I'm a Living example that STREET HYPNOSIS is great can happen, and people do enjoy it. I did a similiar post, and asked if they only had 20 minutes to do a Street Hypnosis Routine what routines would they do. I had people top people on this board (just look up my post) and they well one person said only a Madman would do street hypnosis, and other Negative Comments. Obviously probably because it was "my" post. People here have said "We're NOT attacking you, Ed, we're just being honest", or "Nothing personal Ed", or "Why would anyone want to do Street Hpnosis"...etc. This post by you Richard proves that they do have issues why I don't know with me I guess, as you have NOT been attacked, and NOR do I want you to be. No one attack Richard, or disrespect him as I WAS and DO NOT turn this into a "Well Ed in your post...so and so". I now know the truth.
Enough on that. Yes Street Hypnosis is becoming popular, and I'm happy a C.Ht. professional, has posted on this. You've read my induction I think, and I think you said you liked it. Anyway I went to your website and have seen your new youtube clips. Yes I got a 8-10 minute induction, I do about 5 routines right on the sidewalk it's like 50 feet wide, in my town's downtown "Square". I do Magic and Mentalism as well. Anyway I've never had bigger crowds or have had to pass a hat I do now. People request it. Richard I'd have to say you and Lee and Sebastian are my faves on this site. So here you go guys, a PROFESSIONAL teaching and promoting it. Awesome, awesome for you Rich, Ed, C.H.

Based on Danny's recommendation I bought from Nongard1. He send me the The Little Black Book of Stage Hypnosis and Micheal John's stage induction.
Danny was right...this stuff is good. Very good. The prices are quite reasonable for quality material, rare in the stage hypnotism world. I haven't seen all his stuff but what I got was material clearly backed by real world experience. Very highly recommended. If you are thinking about taking a chance on "just one more hypnotism product" go for it with this guy. You will be pleasantly surprised. |

I've read somewhere that Kreskin once said that there's no such thing as hypnotic trance or going into hypnosis but rather we're all already in hypnosis but it's just that there's various depths.

Kreskin used to have a $50,000 challenge but I believe he dropped it. PET scan studies reported in peer-reviewed journals have shown a specific brain pattern associated with hypnotic trance.

Oh. I knew he had a money prize challenge, didn't know he dropped it. But does the studies actually prove that hypnosis is indeed a actual state?
People keep on saying "go into trance", "go into hypnosis". Which is why I'm a little confused. What's the difference between trance and non-trance? Being in hypnosis and not in hypnosis? Some people say we naturally go into hypnosis dozens of times every day. Some other people say that we are always in hypnosis except when sleeping. And still others say that even during light sleep it is possible to go into hypnosis. So, where's the line? |

If your Inductions are quick enough, And very well executed, closed environments like a college campus, a university campus, a high school campus, or even a corporate environment, can all be turned into suitable locations for street hypnosis demonstrations.
I've been doing that for years in the above list of places. It helps a great deal if you have what I call "an ambassador" following you around -- That is, the student or two, may be a teacher or professor, or perhaps even someone in a leadership or assistant leadership role in the corporation. Those people are your ice-breakers, who will get individuals to sit down for you. Doing a seven to ten minute instant show as demonstrated on the Speed-Trance DVD and Richard and I shot, have more people drawn to your area, built great rapport, and get you additional volunteers to sit down, so additional performances can go on. I do strongly agree with Lee's point of view on different thread here, setting up a lawn chair on a city street corner with a big cardboard sign is not likely to gain you anyone who would even be in any way willing to volunteer. From what I've also noticed, a great deal of resistance can be generated in the various individuals, if the hypnotist is nervous or unsure of themselves. Even just a little bit of that is enough to instantly prevent anything you are attending to do. For a long time I've heard stories of hypnotists who were first getting started out and did things that weren't supposed to work, but did, simply because they didn't know any better. So professionalism, well practiced skill, and to some degree a great deal of audacity, can be the rocket fuel that gets you where you need to be.
