When I perform for children I am Tricky Nick The Magician. People know who I am and what I do within seconds. I am a guy who performs magic tricks for kids.
However, for adults, I am Australia's Honest Con Man (www.conman.com.au) and I find it much harder to explain who I am and what I do. For example, I have lost gigs in the past because clients thought I was a dull corporate speaker on fraud. How can I explain what it is that I do so that people understand it quickly and simply. |

Hi Nicholas,
I can really sympathise. I have similar issues explaining what I do and also dispelling any negative assumptions they might make about my act - without coming across as negative myself. Checked out your website and understood immediately what was on offer - so you've got the first base covered - understanding and being able to articulate exactly what you do can be a difficult first step. I find myself agonising over every word I put out there and rehearse my phone spiel for various shows more than I rehearse the shows. Maybe a catchphrase that caught their attention and aroused interest might help. 'Putting the FUN in crime!' 'He'll rob you, scam you, trick you! and you'll love every minute ' Whatever you do, I think if you can get them to your website you'll be fine. I read it and immediately wanted to see the act. Re-strategizing your marketing strategy may be the answer. Come out with something others have not covered yet. Many corporates have done this before and they get to change their image and get it accepted by the public.
