I just wanted to see if anybody would have any ideas to share about the power of suggestion used in our art of enchantement.
I have personally thought of one that I could share with some of you. I hope that it will enhance some good and interresting chat. Ben |

Hey Ben!
I think it was Benjamin Franklin who said, "Tell the people something once, and they'll consider it. Tell it to them again, and they'll believe it." Interesting how our mind works, isn't it? (and it makes the job a lot easier!) -Marduke

You know, Marduke, I didn't believe that quote the first time I heard it. But now that you've repeated it, it makes perfect sense to me!
"Love God, laugh more, spend more time with the ones you love, play with children, do good to those in need, and eat more ice cream. There is more to life than magic tricks." - Scott F. Guinn

As a hypnotherapist, I use suggestion all the time, both on my clients and myself.
I guess you could even say every thought we have is either a positive or negative suggestion. I'd have to say it is vital to Mentalist techniques. I often say to people... If you think about something you don't want, long enough, you'll probably get it. If you think about something you do want, long enough, you'll probably get that. So you might as well think about what you do want!

Possibly, We can start a list of suggestions used in mentalism. Just be careful on how much you say. Here is a proven one -
"Here, take this, I do not want to touch it...(time delay)...Now let's see what has happened, you have the envelope, right? ...remember, I never touched it..." (Remembered as..he never touched the envelope.) I know there are more and probably more subtle ones out there. If you need to post in the Banquet Room. Mentalists lurk there also.

That is very interesting Marelli, I must remember it.
I use the word "But" when I do tricks because it helps to erase part of the memory. ben |

This kills, trust me. And the finger vise, where the tips of someone's fingers are magically pulled together by the power of suggestion. This one is another one-on-one stopper. Pendulum work - ala Chevreault's Pendulum work (see any basic text on hypnosis for how to do this) is also a good convincer. All of these are direct, no gimmick strong effects that pack empty - no props - use HER necklace for the pendulum - and play really BIG! Lee Darrow, C.Ht.
