I just received my Mini Don yesterday from Jake at RNT II. One word. BEAUTIFUL !!!
It's chrome with the 24kt interior. There was an issue with the order and Jake went wayyyyyyyy above and beyond to make it right. Extremely great customer service. The cup handles really well with just the right amount of bite on the gimmick. I also really like the weight. I will be retiring my Morrissey cup now. Because of the great service I received from Jake I will be ordering from them in the future. More dealers should treat their customers like this. Great product. Outstanding customer service. Sounds great. I'm waiting on a le petite in brass, and some mini monti's. Jake isn't always the quickest to ship, but the product has always been worth the wait. This is my 3rd order with Jake.

Gentlemen, thank you once again for your kind words, patience with both the company and my personal health issues have been abundent with everyone who has done business with RNT II.
What I write now I do so with heavy heart and somewhat a taste of disgust in my mouth for certain individuals, my very words could mar the company but I feel not making this public does more damage than good. First, this will be my final post indefinately on the Café, as a matter of fact I won't be on much at all as I'll be working even harder to fulfill things in a quicker fashion. Second, it was brought to my attention by an avid and loyal customer that he was informed that only the really "GOOD" pieces from RNT II go to the top collectors. Items with spin lines or little nicks or such are given to the average person. Whom ever this person is, they are sheer FOOL and has a real set of cups and balls to say something like that, with any other intention of trying to undermine the productivity and sales of the company. While this anonymous player/collector won't step foward and ask about this, I'm pretty sure he/she could be a he/she has been telling others the same ********. I assure everyone, and I hope this doesn't hurt someone's feelings, but I treat or try to treat everyone just the same. If he or she thinks that they are that special and they are the SHELL ANSWERMAN of business and manufacturing and crafting and the SUPREME COLLECTOR KNOW IT ALL, then they have believed their own ******** for too too long. I am a worker for this company, I don't own it, I don't hold stock, hell I'm not even listed on the corporate charter, but what appears to be happening is someone is still ****ed off that a took a broken toy, fixed it and made it grow. Well shame on me. Another issue that I read here on the Café that has me burning mad is the hype over the next run of Sherwood cups, now several, no more than a dozen people have called me and asked if I don't sell cups that were ordered do I raise my price? I had NO idea what they were driving at, but each sent me to the same thread on the Café. This is ALL HYPE, it's ********, just because someone decides they don't want a set of Sherwoods should the price go up for the next person, one minute he has too many left, the next he's emailing saying he doesn't have enough, which is it? And how do you justify doing this, and what is sad is people are falling for it! You see them for sale on auction all the time, more often than Bertrams or RNT or RNT II lately. Don't buy into the hype, think for yourself, you're the only one that can place a higher value on something. While the product is good, the sales tactics used by Brett smell like yesterday's diaper. I wish everyone the best in their magic, my friends feel free to email or call anytime, you know who you are, while I have enemies and jealous foes, there are more friends than them. Thank you all and I bid the Café farewell Mad Jake

Please don't do this, Jake...
Your informative posts were so educational and fun that I regularly searched for your name. On behalf of all the people who occasionally run into jerks on this forum, I'm sorry. I hope you'll reconsider. :-( |

Jake,
As one of your biggest fans. I am sorry to read your post. I do hope you reconsider. At the same time I guess I can understand your pain. Do note that may times I have read reports about how great your CS is and how great they are to of done business with RNT2. I know I have become a big fan of your work and look forward to the future and what more you can come up with. So, I hope that in time you return to the Café. To give us the inside scoop on what you are working on. Know that you will be missed my friend. Your fan, Sean |

Jake,
while I respect your decision to leave the Café, the decision saddens me immensely. It saddens me because I will no longer be able to read your informative and often amusing posts - thank you for those. It also saddens me that you are leaving for the reasons you gave in your post. If people choose to believe this type of nonsense, they must be foolish indeed. Your fan and friend, Tom

I really hate to see you go. I know you have put up with a lot of nonsense from a lot of people on this forum. But your contributions to the cups and balls are legion. You really can't help it if your out of production items have gone into what I would term "investment" status. Take a few weeks off. Let things cool down. Bill

I can completely understand how being active here could cause stress for someone who offers what you do. And I'm sure you don't need the stress. You're motivated by your work - the sign of an artist - if you don't take that from us, we'll be very happy..............

I spoke to Jake a few hours ago. He told me the situation, and I don't blame him for being torqued about it.
He will still be making really great cups. Let me say this, too. I've bought his cups new, I've bought limited edition pieces from him, and I've bought used items from people who sold them at various auction sites. His products are always first class. I'm in an odd position. I have a number of friends who are artists at making cups and other items. The quality of their work is really remarkable. I hate it when these situations occur that cause friction among them. It's bad for them, it's bad for us and it's bad for magic in general. But they are all human. So, things happen. They are still my friends. We are living in the new golden age of cups and balls.

On 2007-10-10 02:17, Mad Jake wrote: Hi All I would have much preferred a private email from Jake in order to have had the opportunity to clarify my increasing cup production prices instead of reading this stinging public attack on the www, but as it has now been written I am obliged to answer: I have taken reservation orders from various magicians for my Engraved Silver Cups, my order was placed on June 6th, 2007 and many things have changed in the world markets in FOUR MONTHS time! At the time I placed my order I determined a reserved price for the cups and have honoured that price to all those who made reservations, but I doubt I will ever be able to produce my Engraved Silver Cups for the same price again and the current reserved price will be only available to those that reserved cups in June and a further increased at the end of the month will be required - see below for explanations. Several nice magicians offered to pay a deposit or pay for their complete order, but because through experience I knew my Engraved Silver Cups would be late (and I was correct) I declined their kind offers. This delay by my spinners has previously left me extremely annoyed and also left my buyers disgruntled, so I financed this entire Engraved Cup project out of my own pocket. I must also point out for the record that I do not have the benefit to spin or engraved my own cups, therefore I do not have ANY control over the aspects of these raising production costs, apart from insuring the final quality level is maintained and negotiating the price. My cups are my own unique design and this is a very small side business of mine, because most of my time is devoted to performing professionally around the world. In June 2006 several aspects contributed to the raise in my cup prices. You may remember reading about the recent price hike in international copper prices in this cup and ball forum, but this is NOTHING compared to the escalation in international SILVER prices. Please remember this topic is regarding a precious metal SILVER and then you can imagine the ramifications. The international silver rates have more than doubled since I last made an order for my silver cups. I was also slapped with a 200% labour increase by my spinner (this includes spinning, engraving, polishing, gold plating and etching etc...). The price was determined and I then offered this price to the magic fraternity to see if there was any interest. I was happy to learn that there was still many who were willing to pay these higher prices for quality and the opportunity to own a set of my Engraved Silver Cups. As I said above the order was placed FOUR MONTHS ago and anyone who follows the world markets will immediately recall that the dollar has dropped against other world currencies in the world market place, which in turn has again affected the price of my cups. My order placed in June is now only just completed, but I have been told by my spinner that they lost $8000 between the time they started the work in June until the completion date in October 2007, because of the drop in the US dollar rate in exchange with their national currency. I know that this means higher prices should I ever place another Engraved Silver Cup order in the future. Please also note: all of these price raises are OUT OF MY CONTROL. Therefore on October 31st 2007 I will unfortunately be forced to increase ALL my cup prices again. I realize this will place my cups out of the reach of some of you who would like to purchase them and I am sincerely sorry for this, but as I mentioned above my cup business is luckily only a very small home based side business, which is critical to understand, because it would be impossible for me to support myself solely from the already small amount of cup and ball sales I presently receive. I persevere with my cup business to supply those in the magic community who are fortunate enough or desperate enough to afford my Engraved Silver Cups, because there are those discerning individuals who understand when quality and perfect design collide no price is too high. I sincerely appreciate everyone who has ever supported my endeavour to attempt to supply something remarkable to the magic fraternity by purchasing a set of my cups. Thank You!! In closing I hold no ill feelings toward Jake and wish him and his illness the best of speedy recoveries possible and trust this has explained my Engraved Silver Cup 'production costs' situation and clarified the entire matter. Kind Regards To All, Brett Sherwood |
