Tim,
Great example of how things can get out of hand. If I were him, I think I'd have instantly fallen in love with his assistant! When I saw S&R's show in the late 70's with the big cats, I remember thinking: what if one of those bad boys ever got cranky and out of hand on the stage? I'm wondering if were they tethered then. |

To the best of my knowledge, I don't believe S&R's cats were tethered. Roy would run them off stage and into their transport pens. I think the whole tether-law went into effect shortly after the "attack".
To be honest, the tether is a legit and feasible device used with the big cats; however, it seemed almost like a hassle with Dirk's cats. They really weren't on the stage long enough to worry about them heading into the audience. The cats knew were they had to be after coming out of the equipment and that's were they would go....instantly. Most of the time you can judge the cats behavior long before things get out of hand. They are like us... If we are having a bad day, most people catch on to it pretty quick! -Bryan |
