Title: TEARable Sessions by Ben Williams Medium: Booklet Arena: Card Magic Available: Any shop, distributed by Murphys Magic Supplies TEARable was first an e-book and now it is available in booklet form for those of us not into e-books for the most part. Put out by Ben Williams what you get are three routines that all involve a torn corner and featuring his card corner through window. The information is well written and illustrated with photos. Again I wish a larger font would be used because as I get older I have trouble with the smaller print. I’ll be honest with you I’m not a big fan of the card corner through window and I’ve said this before, while the mechanics are fine I just can’t see the reason for doing it. I can’t find the motivation and because of that I don’t do routines like that. Now that doesn’t reflect badly on the routine as found here it is just my preference. I’ll get a bit ego driven and tell you at the end of the review what I think makes up a cool card through window routine and Ben or someone else can run with it. Let’s look at the three routines offered here: Tear-ific A corner is torn from a signed card and eaten or otherwise destroyed only to reappear under your watch. The mechanics are fine and the routine is neat. I think this would be popular among the guys doing street magic and haunting the hallways of their schools. Tear-ified My favorite of the pack. In this the corner is torn off and again eaten, Ben is into eating card corners, only this time the card is magically restored. I like this because if you are going to bring back a corner you should be able to make it whole again. This will take some prep work but worth it. Nice routine. Tear-ibble The corner is torn off and after a failed attempt to restore in the specs hands the corner is found attached to a window, on the outside. The method is pretty good and I’ve no problem with the mechanics and I think that many will be happy with this routine. My position is why not put the whole card through the window if you are going to do it and how often are you in a situation that you’ll be able to pull this off? Some of you may be in that situation often but I am not. So while it isn’t my kind of routine to perform many of you will like it and use it at parties etc.. Just do it at the right time, don’t force the performance. There you go. All are workable and fit different situations. If it sounds like something you’ll like to get into you’ll find a nice lil’ booklet. You Street Assassins and Hallway Hit Men will find this stuff up your alley, eating card corners is one of the building blocks of street magic. Nice job Ben. Here is a routine I did with card through window. It should be noted I did this the worse possible way, I stuck the card up earlier behind a curtain and in front of a bush so no one was going to see it and I did it at night, once. I loved the routine and wish I was creative enough to make it work, here ya go. I had a card freely selected, hah! Next I took out a sharpie and just made a design on the card like a lightening bolt, no signature, just a quick zig zag. I vanish said card and then flash open the window showing the card with the zig zag is in the window…tada! Now for the fun part. I send someone out to get the card and it is brought back and someone notices that there is no zig zag and this I tricked ‘em. I then pulled the curtain back and scrapped off the zig zag that was on my side of the window explaining I could make the card go through but not the foreign substance, meaning the ink. Pulling the zig zag off was like pulling off a signature. I loved it because it gave an additional component to the routine and in my mind rounded it off nicely. Rock on! |
