I've developed one, but was wondering others' opinions................

Bob,
I have several routines for card silks. Many were developed when I live in Fayetteville. My newest one is "Half Card" that I hope you get to see in my lecture sometime or at the Cavalcade of Magic in Eureka Springs March 2008. Kyle Jarrard also has a very good one. Card silks are very effective on audiences. They turn card tricks into stage entertainment. That can be a very difficult transition to make. I look forward to see what you are doing with card silks. Thanks Bob!
and I am still using that silk you made me for that trick! I've got to see the "Half Card" that you mentioned...perhaps I will get a good look at it during the Winter Carnival... |

Thanks, Bob -
My routine involves a silk switch which I've not perfected yet............

Bob, Bob & Kyle (sounds like an investment firm!)
A practical "switch" is to use a small Drum Head Tube or Goblin Tube. Spectator caps one end with paper. Next he/she places a blank silk handkerchief into the tube. Finally the spectator seals the remaining open end of the tube with paper. After you do that Hoo Doo that you do so well, you break through the business end of the tube and pull out the previously blank silk and it is now imprinted with a picture of the selected card. We've used this for years and I can assure you it is very effective. Julie |

I'll tell you one that I really liked...it is the one with the lint vaccume that Henry Evans performs...he does it close up...but it could be performed on stage with the correct adjustments!

I like Tamariz routine from 5 points in magic, but that's pretty much only routine I am familiar with.

How about start off with a QH and a red silk. Then, as the silk is placed over the card, the card is revealed as blank. Then, take the red silk and do your favorite vanish (w/ silk cabby, etc.)and go into 20 C silks where the ending shows the QH card silk.....!?

Bob,
My Silk to Egg is close to that. I just use a different printed silk. In essence, I produce two drinking glasses and make some small play about I can't do magic anymore without my pair glasses. I tie the two parts of the 20th Century Silks together and put them into a glass for the volunteer to hold. Then I produce the printed silk. (Currently it is a rainbow. But I also use Thank You, Happy Birthday, The End, Dragon, Good Bye, Zebra, etc.) The patter is a little different for each but I go into Silk to Egg. When the real egg is cracked into the second glass, I remind the volunteer that things in his/her glass may have changed too. They do work as a pair! The missing silk appears tied between! Take your bow, thank the volunteer and go on to what's next in your show. (Vanishing the three silks in a Blendo and then producing a dove or Line of Silks is a good follow up. A blendo made from 36" card silks might fit the missing card theme.) Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
