Ok, so my reservation is made for Nov 21st to go to the Castle.
I am wondering how the evening works. Dinner at 6:30. But I am noticing those who are slated to be there. Do you have to choose between a early close up performer and a late close up performer? (that night it is David Regal early, John Carney late). Would love to see both, but it would help to know if I had to choose one or the other (not asking you to make that choice for me... just need to know IF I have to choose). Can someone give me an example of how the night might play out? Here is the schedule for that time: CLOSE-UP GALLERY Early Performer David Regal Late Performer John Carney PARLOUR OF PRESTIDIGITATION Early Performer Luis Otero Late Performer Geoff Williams PALACE OF MYSTERY Eric Buss Chris Randall Amos Levkovitch Thanks for your help and information! Just went there a couple of weeks ago for the first time. Once you're in, you're in, and you can go from show to show. The close-up room is small -- probably only seats 35 people or so. So, you have to make sure you are in line on time in order to be able to get in. But each close-up performer does at least three shows, I believe (shows are about 20 - 30 minutes). The night I was there I saw two close-up performers (early and late) and and the Palace of Mystery show. Also saw an amazing South African magician who did not give his name who held court at a small table next to the upstairs bar. If he is performing, do not miss him.

I think the South African you're referring to is Tony Picasso.

Cardfather, thanks so much for giving me his name. I watched two of his sets and have been wanting to find out his name ever since. I was pretty blown away by both his technique but also his persona and presentations. And, it wasn't until I went home that I realized that, amongst some of the heavy duty sleight work he was doing, he frequently threw in one of the most basic, beginner level techniques -- something many of us here would be chagrined to use once in an act let alone many times. And, I gotta say, he burned me with it every time. He's just an amazing performer with a unique personality and presence.

Went to the Castle the day before Thanksgiving and what a treat it was. The performers were fantastic. Every single one of them. It was good to see David Regal live, and he was as talented and funny as I expected. John Carney was amazing. Smooth as silk.
I really enjoyed Luis Otero. I had not heard of this magician before, and it was so neat to see him. He performed an any card at any number effect that blew me away. Wonderful! All in all, this was a great experience and one that I won't soon forget! RevJohn |
