Sponges are the only thing I THOUGHT I was decent at, when I post a video of it and people say its mediocre at best...it's hard. Because if I'm not a sponge magician, what am I? I'm not even a magician. Quote:

Perhaps then it would be a better routine. Also, perhaps I should not say what I'm giong to do. Perhaps I should just say "watch" and make a ball transpose from one hand to another. Maybe that's more magical? Thanks for your feedback. |

Whis is what you are asking for right? FREE advice? Us to teach you for NOTHING? Grow a thicker skin! Oh and also while we are "helpnig for nothing", would you rather I was just saying things like "Yep looked great really impressive" when it is not that at all? Would you rather find out on a message board that your hands look in the first video almost as if you develop instant polio? Or is this a lesson you would be more comfortable learning in front of some people while you are doing the routine poorly and they say something like, "It is in your other hand", "You never put it in the hand."? The "blinker" advice is the best advice you will get belive me. Just learn how to take advice with a bit more of a thick skin. Sorry but I don't give the truth with novicane.

Listen to what Danny says...he's dead right.
IMO, don't be afraid to show the audience your personality! Sponge balls are one of the most fun routines in magic. EVER! They're not made to have a monotone presentation with them... Open up and have some fun. Get some one-liners in there, develop a patter. I've been working on my sponge ball routine for over 2 years now, and it's still in the developing stages!!! It's never perfect! There are just so many things you can tweak to make it better...with patter being the main one IMO. Good Luck! Steve P.S. Live video of my sponge ball routine. Enjoy! (And this was way back when...June! Long time ago! LOL!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHp_jylWkks |

Steve you are such a dork. JK.
Fish, we're not trying to get you to beat yourself up, but if it helps to to BECOME a magician, then go with it. |

Steve, you need to put up video with words and not just cutsey music.
The people are OBVIOUSLY having fun, so let that be what we see.

Yep, you're well advised to not become a blinker. I'm not saying you are a blinker, because the truth is, I haven't been able to view the videos (which is an IT problem on my end). But it's good advice for anyone...

Why doesn't it tickle when I tickle myself, but it still hurts when I stick a fork in my eye?

My best advice is to forget the not practicing in front of a mirror advice. There might be a time and a place in your magic career that that is the way to go. It however is not that time for you. You can record the wrong technique 27 times. Then you get to watch yourself doing it 27 times wrong with out being able to see it live and make those tweaks and adjustments. It took me forever to get my retention vanish timing down. I was ****ed and just was'nt getting it then one day it fell into place during practice and I have "gotten" the timing issue ever since. My advice, stick with it. If you love it, you will give it the time to get it. Also, don't take the things people say on here to harshly. Even though some people might put it very blumt, and it may seem harsh, they are trying to help. There is a lot of knowledge here on the Café. Good Luck!
